Structural Steel Fitter / Welder

Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift
Pay: Up to $25.00/hour, depending on experience
2nd Shift Differential: +$3.00/hour
Position Overview
We are hiring experienced Structural Steel Fitters and Welder/Fitters for a contract-to-hire opportunity. Depending on experience and assignment, the work may focus on structural steel fitting or include Flux Core welding.
You will work from drawings and measurements to prepare, position, align, fit, and assemble structural steel components while maintaining quality and production requirements.
Primary Duties
- Review blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications before starting work.
- Measure, mark, and lay out structural steel components.
- Position and align steel members to achieve accurate fit-up.
- Fit and assemble components in preparation for welding.
- Perform Flux Core welding when assigned to Welder/Fitter work.
- Set up and operate a track torch.
- Safely use and maintain welding equipment, fabrication machinery, and hand tools.
- Check dimensions, alignment, fit-up, and completed assemblies for accuracy.
- Make adjustments when needed to meet drawing and fabrication requirements.
- Work with supervisors and fellow fabricators to maintain production schedules.
- Keep tools and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all required safety and workplace procedures.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
- Previous experience as a Structural Steel Fitter, Welder/Fitter, Structural Welder, or similar position.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical drawings.
- Hands-on experience with structural steel layout, fitting, positioning, and assembly.
- Knowledge of welding processes, equipment, and materials.
- Ability to set up and operate a track torch.
- Ability to perform Flux Core welding and successfully complete a pre-employment welding test.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate workmanship.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to safe work practices.
- AWS or other recognized welding certification preferred.
