Structural Steel Material Handler
Location: Cocoa Beach, FL
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift
Starting Pay: $22/hour, higher depending on experience
2nd Shift Differential: +$3/hour
Position Overview
We are hiring a Material Handler to support daily structural steel production and yard operations. This position focuses on safely moving steel, preparing materials for production and shipping, operating heavy material-handling equipment, and keeping the work area organized.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport and position structural steel and other materials around the yard and shop.
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and Pettibone/telehandler equipment.
- Load, unload, stage, and secure materials for production or shipment.
- Jockey trailers and assist with maintaining an orderly yard.
- Skid and prepare steel and other materials for shipment.
- Operate additional shop or production equipment as needed.
- Clean steel parts and materials before use or shipment.
- Assist with inventory, supply tracking, and material movement.
- Coordinate with production teams and outside crews to keep work on schedule.
- Follow equipment procedures, workplace safety rules, and proper material-handling practices.
- Maintain reliable attendance and contribute to a productive team environment.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience operating overhead cranes.
- Experience using Pettibone/telehandler equipment.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and industrial equipment.
- Previous material handling or warehouse experience preferred.
- Structural steel experience is a plus.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Able to safely lift, move, and position heavy materials.
- Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Able to work independently and effectively with a team.
- Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.
- Willingness to learn additional equipment and job responsibilities.
