    Overview

Reporting directly to the Sanctions Compliance General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel will serve as a trusted partner and principal legal advisor on sanctions laws and regulations of the European Union, its Member States, and the United Kingdom. This role will provide practical, risk-based counsel on complex transactions, ownership and control, licensing, disclosures, investigations, and regulatory developments; strengthen sanctions governance, policies, screening, escalation, recordkeeping, and digital controls; and help ensure the Company’s global sanctions compliance program remains effective and responsive to evolving EU and UK requirements. Working closely with business leaders and Legal, Compliance, Export Controls, Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Sales, and Information Technology teams, the Assistant General Counsel will support compliant international growth, lead engagement with relevant authorities and external advisors, and provide senior leadership with clear guidance on significant sanctions risks and developments.

    Responsibilities

    • Advise on complex and higher-risk transactions, including ownership and control analyses, asset-freeze and funds or economic-resources restrictions, sectoral measures, trade and services prohibitions, circumvention risks, contractual protections, and transaction structuring.
    • Lead legal support for sanctions licence applications, notifications, disclosures, and other submissions to the UK Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation and relevant EU Member State competent authorities, coordinating with outside counsel where appropriate.
    • Monitor and interpret new sanctions legislation, designations, guidance, enforcement actions, and policy developments across the EU and UK; assess business impact and drive timely implementation of required controls and communications.
    • Develop, maintain, and enhance sanctions policies, procedures, governance, screening and escalation protocols, recordkeeping, and other controls, ensuring that EU and UK requirements are appropriately reflected in the Company’s global compliance framework and digital systems.
    • Partner with business leaders and Legal, Compliance, Export Controls, Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Sales, and Information Technology teams to enable compliant growth and consistent sanctions risk management.
    • Direct and support internal reviews and investigations of potential sanctions issues, including fact development, legal analysis, remediation, privilege management, and decisions concerning escalation, reporting, or voluntary disclosure.
    • Support sanctions risk assessments, control testing, audits, and remediation initiatives, and provide legal guidance on identified gaps, emerging risks, and continuous improvement priorities.
    • Develop and deliver targeted training and practical guidance for legal, compliance, and business stakeholders on EU and UK sanctions obligations and enforcement expectations.
    • Represent the Company in appropriate engagement with regulators, industry groups, external advisors, and other stakeholders, and provide clear, concise briefings to senior leadership on significant sanctions risks and developments.
