Data Systems Engineer

Regbase is on a mission to collect every regulatory document in the world. To do that, we’re building AI systems that continuously discover, ingest, structure, and make sense of laws, regulations, guidance, enforcement actions, and other government publications from thousands of official sources. This is not a traditional Data Engineering role: Our challenge isn’t moving data around internal systems, it’s reliably collecting and structuring unstructured information across independent sources.

You’ll have a high amount of ownership over the architecture and approaches we use to solve these problems. In this role, you might design a new ingestion system, model for representing relationships between laws and agencies, build an agent that finds gaps or inconsistencies across millions of records, improve the search quality or figure out how to classify documents. You should apply if: > You’re an experienced engineer who enjoys difficult data problems and wants to build systems that turn messy, unstructured information into something reliable that powers the core product. # **What you will do:** * Design, build and maintain a system for tracking millions of laws and regulations across thousands of official websites * Maintain an ontology, mappings, and the data model that Regbase uses * Build AI agents that investigate anomalies, identify missing coverage, and automatically correct data issues * Develop systems for measuring and improving the completeness, freshness, and accuracy of Regbase’s corpus * Improve how regulatory information is classified, indexed, searched, and retrieved * Turn regulatory information into useful product capabilities * Contribute improvements to the core product as you discover new ways our data can be used * Become knowledgeable about legal systems around the world # **About you:** * 5+ years of experience Data Engineering or Software Engineering * Have worked on large scale data systems before * Care deeply about correctness, provenance, and reliability * Intellectually curious and willing to dive deeply into unfamiliar domains * Excited about using LLMs and other modern techniques where they outperform traditional approaches, and using traditional approaches where they do not * Comfortable taking ownership of ambiguous problems and figuring out the right approach * Leverage AI in your daily life and work # **Bonus if you are:** * Comfortable in Typescript * Experienced in building web crawlers, ingestion pipelines, search systems, or knowledge * Experienced in working with government, legal, financial, or other complex public datasets * Located in or are willing to relocate to New York # What We Provide: * Work directly with the CTO (former staff engineer at Vercel) and CEO * A flexible, fast-paced work environment * The opportunity to work across engineering and product * No limit to personal growth * Outsized ownership over your work * A salary of $175k-250k per year * Equity of 0.1-0.5%
