    Job description

    Vision

We long to see the gospel of Jesus shared and the kingdom of God expressed in the Greater Austin Metropolitan area.

We hope this will include churches, ministries, leaders, and disciples unified in a collaborative, yet diverse approach that impacts the metropolitan area with the love of Christ and the hope of the resurrection that overflows to the nations.

    Our Mission

The Greater Austin Mission Society exists to serve, connect, and support churches, ministries, non-profits, leaders, and disciples in Austin. Its goal is to work together with disciples, leaders, churches, and ministries to advance the gospel, care for the marginalized, and equip leaders for effective service locally and globally.

    Overview

The Events and Communications Manager serves as a connector of people and a curator of presence for the Greater Austin Mission Society. This role shapes how GAMS shows up in the city — through gatherings that catalyze meaningful relationships among pastors, practitioners, and ministry leaders, and through communications that tell the story of what God is doing across the Austin metro.

This is a role for someone who loves the local church, pays attention to detail, and knows how to create environments where trust is built and collaboration begins. The ideal candidate brings organizational skill, creative instinct, and a genuine heart for the mission.

    Responsibilities

    Event Planning and Execution

    • Manage the full lifecycle of GAMS gatherings, including planning, logistics, registration, vendor coordination, and day-of execution.
    • Support the development of a bimonthly Huddle series — practitioner gatherings that bring together Austin-area leaders around focused topics such as intercession, church planting, house church practice, and generational ministry.
    • Maintain participant records and follow-up communications for each event.
    • Coordinate with GAMS leadership to identify future Huddle themes and appropriate conveners, speakers, or facilitators.
    • Ensure every gathering reflects the organizational values of hospitality, clarity, and gospel-centered collaboration.

    Communications and Digital Presence

    • Manage and produce the monthly GAMS newsletter, adapting content from research, leadership, and partner updates for a broad audience of church leaders and ministry stakeholders.
    • Develop and schedule weekly social media content for LinkedIn and Facebook, including event promotion, partner highlights, and citywide ministry stories.
    • Provide content updates and basic copywriting for the GAMS website, ensuring alignment with organizational voice and mission.
    • Coordinate publication across platforms, including MailChimp, Squarespace, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
    • Support the communications dimensions of key publications such as the State of the City report.

    Partner and Donor Communications

    • Assist in drafting partner-facing correspondence and donor updates in collaboration with GAMS leadership.
    • Maintain a consistent organizational voice across all external communications.

    Relational Collaboration and Technical Bridge-Building

    • Serve as a translator between volunteer technical teams (e.g., software developers, analysts) and ministry leaders.
    • Help shape collaborative projects that integrate data and discernment for kingdom purposes.
    • Participate in team prayer and discernment rhythms, contributing both strategic and spiritual insights.

    Qualifications

    • Deep love for Jesus and alignment with the vision, mission, values, and theological convictions of the Greater Austin Mission Society.
    • Experience in event coordination, communications, or a closely related field.
    • Strong writing and editorial instincts, particularly for mission-driven audiences.
    • Comfort managing multiple platforms and workflows simultaneously.
    • Self-directed work style with the ability to collaborate across a lean, early-stage team.
    • Capacity to serve with both relational warmth and operational follow-through.

    Core Alignment

This role supports the Society’s core values:

    • Seek First the Kingdom – We trust data only matters when it helps us follow Jesus more faithfully.
    • Share the Gospel – We use research to illuminate mission fields and proclaim Christ.
    • Serve the Least of These – We analyze with a lens toward justice, poverty, and spiritual need.
    • Simple Generosity – We freely offer insight and share tools to build others up.
    • Start Churches & Support Workers – We deploy insight to equip the sent and shepherd the weary.

    Sample Year-One Projects

    • Launch and manage the 2026 Huddle calendar, including logistics and communication for each gathering.
    • Establish a consistent monthly newsletter rhythm and grow the GAMS subscriber base.
    • Build and maintain a content calendar for social media that reflects the breadth of GAMS partnerships and citywide ministry.
    • Support communications for the State of the City: 2026 report release.
    • Develop a basic event debrief template and participant follow-up workflow.

    Additional Details

    • This role can flex based on season and capacity, including volunteer, support-raised, part-time, or full-time arrangements. A minimum commitment equivalent to ten hours per week is expected during active event and publication cycles.
    • Participation in monthly team prayer and quarterly strategy gatherings is encouraged.
    • Ideal for someone with a communicator's instincts and a servant's posture who wants to see Austin's ministry community grow in connection and collaboration.
