Radiologic & Mammography Technologist

The Radiologic and Mammography Technologist is responsible for the delivery of comprehensive diagnostic imaging services, including radiography and mammography, in accordance with provider orders, clinical protocols, and federal and state regulatory requirements. Operating within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), this role ensures adherence to Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) regulations, radiation safety standards, and organizational quality benchmarks. The Technologist applies advanced technical knowledge and clinical judgment to produce high-quality diagnostic images, support timely clinical decision-making, and maintain compliance with all applicable accreditation and quality assurance standards, while contributing to an integrated, patient-centered care model.

• Perform a full range of diagnostic radiographic and mammography procedures with a high degree of technical accuracy, ensuring optimal image quality for interpretation and diagnosis
• Independently assess imaging orders for appropriateness and completeness; clarify discrepancies with providers as needed
• Apply advanced knowledge of anatomy, positioning, and imaging techniques to produce diagnostically sound images while minimizing repeat exposures
• Evaluate images in real time for quality, artifacts, and diagnostic value; take corrective action as necessary
• Assist providers in clinical decision-making by ensuring timely availability of high-quality imaging results 
• Perform screening and diagnostic mammography in strict adherence to the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and applicable federal and state regulations
• Maintain active compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., ACR) and participate in inspections and audits
• Ensure proper documentation of mammography procedures, patient history, and quality control activities
• Educate patients on the importance of breast health, screening guidelines, and follow-up care
• Deliver compassionate, trauma-informed care to a diverse patient population, including underserved and vulnerable groups typical of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)
• Communicate procedures clearly to reduce patient anxiety and ensure informed cooperation
• Adhere to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and self
• Monitor and enforce radiation safety protocols and proper use of shielding and protective equipment
• Identify and mitigate risks related to imaging procedures, equipment, and patient conditions
• Maintain compliance with all safety, infection control, and OSHA standards
• Perform and document routine quality control testing on radiographic and mammography equipment in accordance with regulatory and manufacturer standards
• Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives, including image audits, peer review, and workflow optimization
• Track and report quality metrics related to imaging services, patient outcomes, and regulatory compliance
• Ensure imaging equipment is maintained in optimal working condition; promptly report malfunctions and coordinate service/repairs
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of imaging rooms and equipment
• Monitor inventory of supplies and ensure availability of necessary materials for uninterrupted services
• Accurately document all imaging procedures, patient interactions, and technical factors in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Ensure timely and accurate transmission of images and reports for interpretation
• Collaborate effectively with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education to maintain competency and stay current with evolving standards

• Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R)
• Current ARRT Mammography Certification (M)
• Active South Carolina state licensure in Radiologic Technology (as required by state law)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (e.g., American Heart Association)
• Certification in digital breast tomosynthesis (if applicable)
• Understanding of radiation physics, protection, and safety practices (ALARA principles)
• Proficiency in diagnostic radiography and mammography imaging techniques
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, positioning, and image evaluation
