Interim Campus Minister

The Catholic Diocese of Richmond, Office for Evangelization is seeking and Interim Campus Minister to serve the Catholic Campus Ministry at James Madison University.

The Interim Campus Minister serves the Catholic Campus Ministry at James Madison University by providing onsite pastoral and logistical support ministry programming and events. The Interim Campus Minister also provides a regular staff presence at the facility interacting with students and providing ministerial support as needed.

Responsibilities:

1. Is present for student events and ensures events have proper logistical support
2. Works alongside the Chaplain and other staff members to provide in-person pastoral care to students while they are on campus
3. Runs errands for the ministry such as picking up groceries, getting print items from the shop, and going to the store
4. Ensures that the facility is clean and cared for
5. Reports ministry updates regularly to the Associate Director for Campus Ministry and alerts him or her to any student concerns in a timely manner.
6. Performs all other duties as assigned

•     Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in a field related to theology or pastoral ministry is required.
•     1-3 years of prior experience in pastoral work, preferably campus ministry
•     Practicing Catholic in good standing.
•     Thorough knowledge of Church teachings and theology with the ability to relate that knowledge to young adults in a campus ministry setting
•     Exceptional people skills
•     Ability to empathize with others
•     Self-motivated, works easily alone or with others
•     Ability to maintain confidentiality
•     Detail-oriented and highly organized
•     Ability to recognize the unique development needs of University students
•     Ability to work with diverse groups related to student life and health
•     Strong computer skills

This is an interim part-time position (up to 15 hours/week), non-exempt professional ministry position. Night and weekend work is necessary primarily during the academic year. Regular, weekly schedule will be required. A physical presence on the local campus is required on a weekly basis as well.
