The Catholic Community Foundation of the Diocese of Richmond is seeking a Philanthropy Advisor. The Philanthropy Advisor develops and manages relationships with higher-capacity donors – those with $10,000+ giving potential – to secure significant philanthropic support for the Catholic Community Foundation, parishes, schools, and Diocesan ministries.
This is an individual-contributor major gifts role within a growing advancement team, reporting to the Director of Advancement, with the opportunity to build a personal portfolio, run MOVES management plans, and promote planned giving alongside major gift cultivation.
This is one of five new advancement positions created out of the Foundation’s recent strategic planning process, offering the chance to help shape how CCF cultivates its most significant donor relationships going forward.
Primary Responsibilities
- Implements short, intermediate, and long-term major and planned gift donor activities and strategies to achieve portfolio goals and build long-term relationships.
- Develops individualized solicitation strategies for each donor.
- Cultivates, solicits major gifts, and stewards a portfolio of donors.
- Partners with the Director of Advancement to set fundraising targets and track progress against targets.
- Creates meaningful engagement opportunities (events, reports, impact stories) and maintains ongoing communication with donors to deepen their commitment to the Catholic Church.
- Works with the CCF leadership, CCF board members, and CCF staff to align donor interests with organizational priorities.
- Tracks donor activity, proposals, and outcomes. Prepares reports on fundraising performance and pipeline as requested by CCF leadership.
- Maintains accurate donor records in the Raiser’s Edge NXT database.
- Initiates and responds to correspondence with key constituents. Communicates effectively through email and in-person visits.
- Works with Database Manager to ensure timely and personalized acknowledgment of gifts or pledges received.
- Assists with review and verification of major gift donor recognition lists.
- Attends regional and national conferences to advance understanding of fundraising best practices.
- Supports capital campaigns, the Annual Diocesan Appeal, and other fundraising activities as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of demonstrated experience in major and planned gifts for a charitable organization required.
- Proven success securing large gifts (five- and six-figure donations).
- Ability to manage multiple donor relationships simultaneously.
- Advanced understanding of MOVES management strategies.
- Fundamental knowledge of how to analyze wealth screening data and implement it in donor strategy.
- A working understanding of endowments, charitable gift annuities, trusts, and bequests.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong computer skills are required.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively and to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Accurate, detail-oriented, dependable, and punctual.
- Must be able to travel frequently, serve in a full-time capacity, and be available as needed during nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven success securing seven-figure donations is a plus.
- Experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge is preferred.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.
- A background in and appreciation of the Catholic Church and its teachings as well as nonprofit settings is preferred.
Salary range: $80,000 – $100,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. Comprehensive benefits are included per diocesan policy. All offers of employment are conditional pending the successful completion of a background check.
