The role:
Electrical Design Engineer – Offshore Energy | Newcastle
We are looking for a proactive and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join our Electrical Design Team in Newcastle city centre. In this role, you will work on a variety of complex, bespoke engineering projects within our Offshore Energy product group.
This is a hands-on, technical role where you will contribute directly to the design, delivery and optimisation of high-quality engineering solutions.
Your role
As part of the Electrical Design team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical designs and supporting projects throughout their lifecycle.
Your responsibilities include:
- Designing electrical systems and solutions for bespoke engineering projects
- Writing technical specifications and selecting appropriate components
- Supporting project costing and budgeting activities
- Providing technical support to customers and internal stakeholders
- Preparing inspection, test and FAT documentation
- Contributing to standardisation and efficiency improvements within the Electrical Department
- Delivering engineering work packages and projects with minimal supervision
- Ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget
- Supporting commissioning and installation activities
- Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across the business
What you bring
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
- Experience in a similar role within a project-driven, engineering environment
- Strong experience in electrical design, including:
- Power distribution systems (230V & 440VAC)
- Machine control and instrumentation systems
- Control panel design
- Motor starter and VSD design
- Experience with Electrical CAD tools (EPLAN Electric P8 preferred)
- Familiarity with ISO9001 or similar quality standards
- Knowledge of marine and offshore environments (preferred)
- Understanding of DNV GL and Lloyd’s standards
- Experience with subsea systems and/or high voltage systems is an advantage
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g. IEC61508, IEC61511, IEC13849) is a plus
- Commissioning and testing experience is beneficial
