Rural King is seeking an Assistant Store Manager Trainee to develop the leadership and operational skills needed to become a future Assistant Store Manager. This role provides hands-on training in retail operations, sales, customer service, merchandising, inventory, and associate development.
The Assistant Store Manager Trainee partners with the Store Manager to support store operations, develop associates, deliver excellent customer service, and drive business results. Upon promotion, you must be willing to relocate or commute to one of three area stores.

Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Store Operations & Business Performance
- Partner with the Store Manager to support daily operations, sales, inventory, merchandising, pricing, scheduling, and store performance.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and appealing store environment, including merchandise displays, building, grounds, and equipment.
- Support inventory accuracy, cash handling, shrink reduction, loss prevention, and company operational initiatives.
- Follow company policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Associate Development
- Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, coaching, and development of associates.
- Provide direction, feedback, motivation, and recognition while holding associates accountable to expectations.
- Lead by example and promote a positive, professional, team-focused work environment.
- Build the leadership and business skills needed to transition into an Assistant Store Manager role.
Customer Experience & Store Support
- Deliver exceptional customer service and resolve customer and associate questions or concerns.
- Support customer engagement, sales initiatives, promotions, loyalty programs, and community activities.
- Operate computers, handheld inventory devices, forklifts, pallet jacks, ladders, and other retail equipment.
- Participate in cross-training and perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of retail leadership, management, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Interest in building a career in retail management and progressing into an Assistant Store Manager role.
- Ability to lead, coach, motivate, and develop associates in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Experience with retail operations, sales, merchandising, inventory, and customer service.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, analyze information, make decisions, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and retail technology.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and a 50-hour workweek based on business needs.
- Must meet federal requirements to qualify for a Federal Firearms License (FFL), when applicable.
- Willingness to relocate or commute to one of three area stores upon promotion.
Qualifications
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and navigate all areas of the store.
- Ability to use ladders, pallet jacks, forklifts, and other retail equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, associates, and leaders.
- Close vision required for computer-related activities.

Compensation
Exact compensation determined by factors such as geographic location, education, certifications, experience, job level, shift, and organizational needs. Eligible associates may also receive overtime pay in compliance with applicable laws.
