Role Overview
Mojo Mortgages is building the UK's most intelligent mortgage broker, combining human expertise with AI across the full customer journey. Data is the foundation everything sits on.
As a Lead Data Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring our data is of high quality, enabling our analysts to uncover important insights. You’ll also lead the build of key supporting infrastructure to power self-service data access to a wide set of stakeholders. Reporting into our Head of Data, you’ll join a team that spans analysts, analytics engineering, data science, and data engineering. You’ll work alongside cross-functional product teams to solve real business problems.
- Drive the build-out of our semantic layer and MCP layer
- Design and implement data transformations from raw ingested data into well-structured data models
- Translate and codify business metrics into clear, governed definitions in partnership with stakeholders
- Implement automated checks that ensure data quality
- Contribute to the build of internal data dashboards
- Drive data quality and governance in an FCA-regulated environment, where accurate audit trails are a regulatory requirement
- Work closely with stakeholders to define data requirements
- Provide technical leadership and champion best practices
- Foster the adoption of new and innovative technologies
- Act as a mentor and coach to less senior members of the team
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL, BigQuery, dbt and Python
- Experience working with data pipelines, modern data ingestion and transformation patterns.
- Familiarity with modern data architecture patterns
- Experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code and analytics agents
- Experience in building out a semantic layer and working with MCP
- Strong grasp of engineering principles and writing maintainable, tested code
- Strong background in Agile methodologies and Git for version control
- Excellent communication skills and comfortable in working with various stakeholders across the business, both technical and non-technical
It Would Be Great If You Had
- A fintech or regulated financial services background
- Experience with AI/LLM infrastructure such as developing AI model evaluations
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures
- Experience in working with real-time data and supporting infrastructure
- Remote-first working with the option to work anywhere in the world for up to 22 days per year
