The Role

This role is part of our Saab Seaeye underwater robotics business unit in Fareham.

As a Mechanical Fitter you will be tasked with the assembling a variety of small and large mechanical assemblies to customer specification.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assemble large Tether Management Systems, ROV chassis and associated mechanical assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.
• Carry out mechanical assembly activities including:
  • Bolting and aligning heavy sub-assemblies and structural frames.
  • Installing mechanical components and hardware.
  • Routing, bending and connecting hydraulic hoses and pneumatic lines.
  • Securing wire harnesses, looming and carrying out basic cable routing.
  • Filling fluid reservoirs, bleeding systems and checking for leaks.

• Support Research & Development activities, prototype builds, trials and product improvement projects as required.
• Be willing and able to work outside the factory environment, including at test locations and customer sites when required.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a small, multidisciplinary team, using initiative and practical judgement to resolve day-to-day challenges.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, General Assembly drawings and work instructions to ensure assemblies are completed correctly and to the required standard.
• Use a range of hand and workshop tools, including drills, files, screwdrivers, spanners, ratchets and measuring equipment.
• Carry out basic machining operations, including milling and turning, where required. Previous machining experience would be beneficial.
• Undertake basic electrical assembly activities, such as earth bonding and continuity testing, with appropriate training and support.
• Maintain high standards of 6S, housekeeping, tool control and workplace organisation.
• Manage time effectively to minimise downtime and maximise productivity, quality and delivery performance.
• Maintain the appropriate level of competence in relevant IT systems and other tools required to perform the role effectively.
