Samsung Research America (SRA) develops next-generation technologies in software, user experience, and services for future products. Headquartered in Silicon Valley with locations across North America, we partner with industry and academia to translate research and innovation into tangible outcomes. We lead in machine intelligence by building AI that is user-centric and physically grounded—AI that understands not just what users want, but their physical context and environment.

Samsung’s North America AI Center in Mountain View, CA, plays a pivotal role in developing next-generation software, user experiences, and intelligent services that enrich consumers’ lives.

    Position Summary:

This position is part of the Samsung Research AI Center and is responsible for driving cutting-edge R&D that directly contributes to the company’s most critical business and product needs.

    • Establish and guide innovative research in vision/multimodal AI, agent-based AI and hyper-personalized multimodal user experiences, fully aligned with the company’s global strategy and future product roadmap.

    • Strategic Innovation with Global Teams: In collaboration with Samsung Research and global R&D partners, identify opportunities to revolutionize Samsung products through emerging AI technologies.
    • Research Excellence & Impact: Ensure consistent publication at premier venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AAAI, ACL, EMNLP, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, TPAMI). Meet ambitious goals for patents and high-impact papers. Organize influential scientific events such as conferences, workshops, and open challenges to enhance global visibility.
    • Talent Acquisition & Development: Attract, hire, mentor, and retain top AI researchers and engineers while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
    • Technology Transfer: Work with product teams to integrate research results into consumer-ready solutions, accelerating the deployment of Agentic and personalized AI features across Samsung’s devices and services.

    Required Skills:

    • PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
    • 10+ years of post-PhD experience leading advanced AI research.
    • Deep expertise in vision and multimodal AI and agentic AI (autonomous agents, reasoning, decision-making), plus strong foundations in computer vision, image/video processing, and generative AI applications.
    • Proven record of top-tier publications and impactful patents, with successful technology transfer from research to large-scale products.
    • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with Samsung’s global R&D teams and exceptional interpersonal skills to lead and inspire multidisciplinary research groups.
    • Demonstrated ability to define long-term AI strategies and manage large, internationally distributed teams.
