We are looking for an organised, proactive and people-focused Work Placement Officer to join our Foundation Learning team at Sandwell College and Cradley Heath on a fixed-term academic year basis, working 15 hours per week, 38 weeks term time only.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping learners gain valuable workplace experience and develop the skills, confidence and knowledge they need for their future careers. Working across Foundation Learning and Supported Internship programmes, you will support young people, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), to prepare for and access meaningful work placements that help them progress towards sustained employment and independence.
- Source, organise and coordinate high-quality work placements and internship opportunities for learners
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with employers, supporting them to provide meaningful experiences for young people
- Support the delivery and development of Supported Internship placements, working closely with learners, families, curriculum staff and employment support professionals
- Carry out Health & Safety and suitability checks at placement providers
- Visit learners in the workplace, monitoring attendance, progress, behaviour and overall placement experience
- Work collaboratively with curriculum teams, job coaches and support staff to ensure learners receive appropriate guidance and support in the workplace
- Provide pastoral and practical support to learners, helping them overcome barriers and achieve successful outcomes
- Maintain accurate records and ensure placement documentation, workbooks and tracking systems are up to date and compliant
- Liaise effectively with parents, carers, employers and external agencies to support learner progression
- Promote employer engagement through networking, events, sector groups, enrolment activities and employer forums
- Attend relevant meetings, contribute positively to team discussions and provide regular updates on learner and placement progress
- An appropriate Level 3 qualification or above
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- A good understanding of Health & Safety within an industry, employment or training environment
- Experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with employers and external stakeholders
- An understanding of safeguarding and the needs of young people, including those with SEND, within the workplace
- Knowledge or experience of Supported Internships, employability programmes or work-based learning would be advantageous
- Have your own transport that can be used for carrying out your job (mileage will be reimbursed) and ideally, a full driving licence
