Serge Island Farms Limited is seeking an experienced and result-driven Facilities & Maintenance Manager to oversee the safe maintenance, installation, repair, and upkeep of farm facilities, housing accommodations, machinery, and equipment . Operating within a dairy farming environment, you will ensure that all physical assets, utility systems, and building structures operate reliably, efficiently, and in full compliance with safety and regulatory standards .
Key Responsibilities
- Facilities & Asset Management: Apply sound engineering principles to plan, develop, design, and maintain farm facilities, housing structures, utilities, and engineering assets .
- Maintenance Planning & Equipment Reliability: Develop, schedule, and execute preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all farm machinery, equipment registers, and specialized systems .
- Technical Operations & Systems Maintenance: Troubleshoot, service, repair, and test complex electrical, mechanical, and plumbing infrastructure—including refrigeration/chiller systems, vacuum pumps, air compressors, boilers, heat exchangers, electrical switchgears, transformers, water/air solenoids, motor controllers, and deep well pumps .
- Project & Contractor Supervision: Plan, manage, and supervise capital works, infrastructure projects, outsourced contractors, and technical personnel to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget .
- Budgeting & Procurement: Develop and manage maintenance budgets, coordinate with Stores to procure spare parts and supplies, and maintain prudent inventory levels .
- Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure facility operations adhere to occupational health and safety, environmental (NEPA), public health (MOH), and security regulations . Maintain commitment to Food Safety and Quality Management Systems (ISO 22000, HACCP) .
- Leadership & Reporting: Prepare maintenance reports, track machine downtime, lead and train technical personnel, and liaise with utility companies, engineering consultants, and external suppliers .
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering-related field from an accredited institution, with recognized engineering discipline training and certification .
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of practical experience in facilities management, preferably within a dairy farming or agricultural environment .
- Technical Competencies:
- Ability to interpret mechanical diagrams, equipment drawings, and electrical circuit blueprints .
- Strong manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude with hand and hydraulic tools .
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, construction, and electronic control concepts .
- Practical understanding of project management, contracts, and procurement procedures .
- Certifications & Clearances:
- Valid Food Handlers’ Permit .
- Working knowledge of ISO 22000 and HACCP Food Safety Management Systems .
- Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as well as a criminal background check .
- Key Skills: Proven leadership, team building, decision-making, detail orientation, time management, and written/verbal communication skills .
Working Environment & Demands
- Work Environment: Involves working in hazardous agricultural environments with potential exposure to noise, dust, confined spaces, cold, and heat .
- Physical Demands: Requires standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and handling tools and machinery controls .
Schedule & Availability: Demands flexibility for extended weekday, weekend, or holiday work as operational needs dictate, as well as availability for 24-hour call-out duty.- Location/Accommodation: Candidates must ideally reside within the parish of St. Thomas or be able to occupy secure accommodation provided on the farm.
