Job Description:

What’s the role             

The Originator is responsible for delivering structured West power and gas transactions from origination through execution, including supporting the negotiation and finalization of commercial agreements. The role provides recommendations on potential transactions and strategic market opportunities, supported by comprehensive commercial and risk analysis.

In addition, the Originator supports the evaluation and assessment of customer opportunities, market segments, and emerging market trends, while contributing to the development and execution of both short-term and long-term business strategies.

Success in this role requires strong understanding and knowledge of physical power and/or gas markets.

What you’ll be doing

• Originate new gas and power sales and supply opportunities in the West markets
• Develop and maintain robust, long-term relationships with key clients across an extensive network of external commercial customer contact portfolio
• Lead effective deal team management by driving clear communication, alignment, and decision-making cadence, ensuring opportunities are evaluated through an appropriate risk-reward lens while fostering constructive challenge and support to advance high-quality deals, supported by robust contracting and transparent financial and strategic rationale
• Present high-quality advice to support investment decision
• Drive business development activities by building and managing an internally aligned opportunity pipeline, advancing qualified opportunities through the deal lifecycle to successful execution
• Own post-close relationships and collaborate with the portfolio management team on relationship management, profitability views/enhancements, lookbacks, operational effectiveness
• Collaborate with senior internal stakeholders
• Manage complexity of commercial portfolio within the evolving market environment and regulatory landscape

Delivery expectations:

• Cover power & gas dealmaking in CAISO, Pacific Northwest, and the broader WECC

What you bring

• The candidate must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• At least 7 years of experience in power and/or gas origination is essential for this role
• A highly motivated self-starter with proven ability to pursue creative opportunities which beneficial to both external and internal commercial counterparties
• The successful candidate is located in San Diego and must be present either in the office or with external customers/stakeholders, averaging no less than 4 days/week

What we offer

The base salary range for this position is $178,000 - $266,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance.
