About the role
We’re looking for an IT Operations Engineer to manage day-to-day IT for our Malta office, covering end-user support, network and on-site infrastructure, while supporting wider Group IT projects and standards. A meaningful part of the job is physical — racks, cabling, switches, access points, meeting-room technology and hardware — so on-site presence is required.
Key responsibilities
End-user support and IT operations
- Act as the primary IT contact for the Malta office: triage, resolve and escalate incidents and service requests within agreed response times.
- Manage the full hardware lifecycle — procurement input, imaging, deployment, asset register, repairs, warranty and secure disposal.
- Run employee onboarding and offboarding: account creation, licence assignment, device provisioning, access rights and clean, auditable leaver processes.
- Administer Microsoft 365 day to day — accounts, groups, shared mailboxes, licences, permissions and MDM/endpoint policies, Intune.
- Support meeting rooms, conferencing and presentation equipment, and provide reliable technical support for internal events and company-wide meetings.
- Maintain accurate documentation, knowledge-base
articles and how-to guides for users and for the IT team.
- Prepare, configure and stage IT equipment for company events and conferences — laptops, networking kit, access points, printers, registration and AV hardware — including pre-event testing, packing and asset tracking, and reinstatement of equipment on return.
Network and on-site infrastructure
- Operate and maintain the Malta office network: switching, routing, Wi-Fi, VLANs, firewall rules and VPN access, in line with group standards.
- Own the office server room and comms rooms — structured cabling, patching, rack hygiene, UPS, environmental monitoring and power resilience.
- Monitor network, server and service health; investigate alerts, diagnose faults and drive issues through to root cause.
- Support on-premises servers (Windows and Linux): patching, backups, restores, capacity and routine maintenance windows.
- Administer and maintain Synology NAS storage — volumes, shares and permissions, snapshots, replication, backup jobs, firmware updates, disk health and capacity planning.
- Coordinate with ISPs, landlords, contractors and hardware vendors for installations, faults, moves and office changes.
- Contribute to infrastructure projects — office fit-outs and relocations, network refreshes, storage and backup expansion, and group rollouts landing in Malta.
Security, compliance and quality
- Apply group security baselines on endpoints and network devices: patching, disk encryption, endpoint protection, MFA and access control.
- Support access reviews, asset audits and evidence-gathering for internal and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Act as first responder for security alerts affecting Malta users and devices, escalating to the Security Operations team as required.
- Follow and help improve change, incident and problem management practices, keeping records complete and current.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in an IT operations, IT support or systems/network administration role, ideally in a multi-site or international organisation.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration (Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint/OneDrive, Teams) and endpoint management (Intune or equivalent MDM).
- Solid practical networking skills: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing and switching, Wi-Fi design and troubleshooting, firewalls and VPNs.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise vendors such as Ubiquiti/UniFi, Cisco Meraki, Fortinet or similar.
- Experience administering Windows Server and Linux systems, including backups, patching and monitoring.
- Comfortable with hands-on hardware work: racking and stacking, structured cabling, patch panels, UPS and server-room housekeeping.
- Competent with endpoint platforms in a mixed estate — Windows and macOS — and with standard helpdesk/ticketing tooling.
- Methodical troubleshooter with a strong ownership mentality: you follow issues through to resolution and document what you did.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Willing to provide occasional out-of-hours support for planned maintenance, incidents and major company events.
Nice to have
- Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, Ubiquiti or similar).
- Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, Python) and exposure to IaC/configuration management.
- Experience with Cloudflare, Zero Trust, SaaS management and identity automation.
- Familiarity with NAS/SAN, virtualisation (VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V) and backup solutions.
- Experience supporting AV and live-event technology.
- Awareness of ISO 27001, GDPR and gaming-regulatory requirements.
- Experience in iGaming, media or events is a plus.
