About the role
Part of the Operations and Technical Services (OTS) team, the Manager Asset Management is accountable for establishing, integrating and governing the Asset Management operating system required to protect safe and stable ramp up and deliver sustainable value from Simfer assets. The function provides Asset Management services, support and technical expertise to Operations, working collaboratively with operational teams to understand business requirements, asset risks and execution constraints. The role sets direction, creates clear ownership and ensures that plans, systems, data, capability, materials and assurance work together as one management system rather than as separate technical activities.
The role translates business and production requirements into risk based asset strategies, lifecycle plans, executable maintenance and shutdown plans, sustaining capital priorities, inventory strategies, controlled master data and measurable performance. Asset Management develops and integrates the plans, standards, systems and technical basis that enable Operations and Maintenance teams to execute safely and effectively. The role maintains a close partnership with Operations throughout planning, execution and performance review and provides the management cadence connecting Asset Management with Reliability Engineering, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain and Projects.
Success requires a leader who can build foundations while operations mature, challenge weak controls, make asset risk visible, develop Guinean capability and move the organisation from readiness issue closure to disciplined lifecycle performance.
Role Purpose:
- Protect people, production and asset value by ensuring that critical asset risks and controls are identified, owned, implemented and assured
- Partner with Operations to provide the Asset Management services, technical expertise, strategies and executable plans required for safe and effective operational delivery
- Create a single, practical Asset Management system that links strategy, planning, work management, spares, systems, data, capability and lifecycle investment
- Enable safe, stable and predictable performance across Mine, MPP, Port and shared services interfaces, with attention to assets and services that can constrain ramp up
- Build local leadership and technical capability so the function progressively transitions to a sustainable Guinean workforce
- Provide clear performance visibility and decision support to the General Manager Operations Technical Services and operational leadership
Key Accountabilities:
Asset Management strategy, governance and risk
- Set the Asset Management strategy, standards, accountabilities, decision rights and governance aligned with business objectives and value chain risk.
- Govern maintenance strategies, Asset Management Plans, lifecycle and renewal plans, sustaining capital priorities and assurance of critical asset controls.
- Lead the weekly Asset Management priorities forum and monthly system health review and provide concise, decision focused performance and risk reporting.
Integrated planning, shutdowns and materials readiness
- Lead long term planning, backlog governance and shutdown planning rhythms so plans are risk based, resource loaded and ready for execution.
- Integrate production, maintenance, engineering, reliability, supply and capital requirements and expose constraints early for timely decisions.
- Govern critical spares, long lead components, repairables, bills of material and inventory strategies to support asset risk and operating plans.
Systems, data, reliability and lifecycle performance
- Own the integrity and adoption of Asset Management systems and data, including asset hierarchies, maintenance plans, task lists, bills of material, failure data and reporting structures.
- Ensure approved maintenance tactics move through a controlled workflow from Reliability Engineering and Strategy into master data and executable work.
- Use asset health, defect elimination, work management and lifecycle insight to focus improvement and investment on the highest value and highest risk opportunities.
Capability, leadership and transition to operations
- Build an accountable, service oriented Asset Management team and develop Guinean leaders and specialists through coaching, assessed competence, knowledge transfer and succession planning.
- Ensure work management standards, procedures and technical documentation are controlled, practical and embedded in daily execution.
- Convert commissioning, handover and readiness gaps into prioritised operational backlogs with clear ownership across Planning, Reliability, Engineering, Supply Chain, Data, Capability and Operations.
Operations partnership and execution enablement
- Partner with Operations and Maintenance to understand business requirements, asset risks and execution constraints and translate them into integrated, executable plans.
- Provide practical Asset Management services, planning support and technical expertise that enable operating teams to execute safely, efficiently and consistently.
- Maintain clear service expectations and two way feedback so field learning and emerging constraints are reflected in strategies, tactics and priorities.
Qualification and required experience:
- Significant leadership experience in Asset Management, maintenance, reliability, engineering or operational readiness within a complex mining, processing, infrastructure or heavy industrial environment.
- Demonstrated success establishing or improving an Asset Management operating model across multiple functions or value chain areas.
- Strong experience in lifecycle planning, maintenance strategy, long term planning, shutdown governance, critical spares, systems and data and asset risk management.
- Experience translating commissioning or project handover issues into controlled operational plans and accountabilities.
- Proven ability to lead diverse technical teams and influence Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Projects, Supply Chain, Finance and senior leadership.
- Experience building local capability, transferring knowledge and creating sustainable succession pathways in a developing operational context.
- Demonstrated commercial judgement across operating cost, sustaining capital, service partners and whole of life value.
- Systems thinker who connects risk, work, data, materials, capability and investment.
- Safety focused visible and practical leader who works close to the operation while maintaining strategic perspective.
- Clear decision maker who creates accountability and challenges ambiguity without adding unnecessary hierarchy.
- Confident influencer who can align stakeholders with competing priorities
- Disciplined executor who follows through on commitments and builds durable management rhythms.
- Capability builder who coaches others, creates ownership and supports localisation.
- Calm, credible and transparent in a high pressure ramp up environment.
