Job Duties:
- Perform PET/CT and nuclear medicine procedures in accordance with physician orders and department protocols.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals and medications as required for imaging and therapeutic procedures.
- Obtain, verify, and document patient history; explain procedures and answer patient questions to ensure comfort and cooperation.
- Operate and maintain PET/CT and nuclear medicine equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Process and enhance images using advanced computer software and ensure accurate post-processing.
- Monitor patients during exams and report any adverse reactions or unusual findings to appropriate personnel.
- Evaluate images to ensure quality, clarity, and proper calibration of imaging equipment.
- Record and calculate isotope dosages accurately following safety and departmental guidelines.
- Maintain patient records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA and medical standards.
- Collaborate with radiologists and referring physicians to ensure timely and accurate diagnostic interpretation.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment; adhere to infection control and radiation safety protocols.
- Provide exceptional patient care and service in a compassionate and professional manner.
- Stay up to date with advances in PET/CT imaging technology and participate in ongoing education or training.
- Perform CT procedures, including specialized scans such as Coronary CTAs, Dual Energy Metal Suppression, and kidney stone quantification.
- Provide hands-on training and mentorship to students during clinical rotations, ensuring competency in imaging procedures, safety protocols, and patient care standards while fostering professionalism, confidence, and skill development.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology or Radiologic Technology program (AMA-approved).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in radiology, nuclear medicine, or PET/CT imaging.
- Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Sciences or related healthcare field preferred
- Experience with specialized PET/CT imaging procedures such as Axumin, NETSPOT, Amyloid, and Oncology Imaging.
- BLS Certification or “Hands-On” CPR (required).
- Certification needed are as followed:
- NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board) or ARRT(N) – American Registry of Radiologic
- Technologists in Nuclear Medicine, and ARRT (CT) –
- Certified CT Technologist
- State licensure as required by applicable law.
- Valid CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of PET/CT and nuclear medicine imaging procedures and radiopharmaceuticals.
- Proficient in image acquisition, processing, and analysis using modern imaging software.
- Strong understanding of radiation safety practices and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent patient care and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and under general supervision in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to evaluate technical image quality.
- Competency in handling emergencies and recognizing adverse reactions to contrast/radiopharmaceuticals.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
- Familiarity with PACS, RIS, and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in imaging technologies.
