Grounds & Gardens Assistant

We're supporting hospitals nationwide, ensuring clean, well-ventilated, and heated spaces that aid patient recovery. We help cut energy use, carbon emissions, and waste costs, drawing on global best practice from over 400 healthcare projects, including the (Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, Mansfield, Papworth, Derby).

We are currently looking for a Grounds & Gardens Assistant who will maintain the Royal Derby Hospital grounds and gardens to ensure pleasant well kept tidy safe surroundings for patients, visitors and staff throughout the year.

As the Grounds & Gardens Assistant, you will:

•  Keep all main entrance paved areas, pathways, roads, car parks, shrubberies and lawn areas free from litter and fallen leaves.
• Respond to ad hoc requests for specialist cleaning and safe remediation of biohazardous spillages and contamination incidents in accordance with health and safety procedures.
• Carry out maintenance checks for litter control waste bins, site wide cleanliness’ and carry out corrective actions where possible, report all other findings to the Help Desk.
• Ensure the care, maintenance and upkeep of all outdoor grassed and landscaped areas using appropriate horticultural machinery where necessary, allowing for seasonal changes and weather conditions i.e. gritting on call tractor team.
• Assists in the control and proper use of garden chemicals and weed killing agents and be aware of Health & Safety and COSSHH requirements.
• Carry out weekly PPM on the sites automatic / revolving doors, reporting any problems to the M+E Supervisor.
• Carry out appropriate additional tasks as required by the Head Gardener within capabilities.

We are looking for:

• Extensive previous experience required.
• Qualified to a minimum NVQ level 2 in Amenity Horticulture.
• Trained and certified plant & equipment driver.  (Tractors, Bucket Loader and Fork Loader)
• Working at Height Trained and the use of Man safe systems.
• IOSH Working Safely Qualified.
• Human Focus Card Holder.
