IT Automation Engineer

You will be working in the Technology and Sustainability Team we harness digital transformation and innovation to meet ambitious climate goals and deliver sustainable solutions for our customers.

We are currently looking for an IT Automation Engineer, based at Leavesden Park, Watford, who will be accountable for delivering improvement through process automation and technical advancement using modern methodologies and technologies to help projects deliver value and control cost.

As the IT Automation Engineer, you will:

• Drive business improvement through process automation and technical innovation, helping projects maximise value and control costs.
• Design, build, test, document and migrate automation solutions, including legacy processes, across Microsoft Azure and other cloud or on-premises platforms.
• Support high service availability through proactive incident, problem and change management, including out-of-hours or on-call support where required.
• Work closely with product owners, stakeholders and engineering teams to turn user requirements into actionable stories and deliver integrated, end-to-end automation solutions.
• Help shape and define Automation as a Service, creating scalable and reusable automation capabilities.
• Promote knowledge sharing, peer review and continuous improvement, while embedding security and compliance into every automation implementation.

We are looking for:

• Degree-qualified, hold an equivalent professional qualification, or bring substantial experience in a similar IT automation or engineering role.
• Strong hands-on technical expertise in PowerShell, C#, .NET Framework/.NET Core, SQL and REST APIs.
• Proven experience delivering end-to-end process automation across both cloud and on-premises environments.
• Solid configuration management and development experience using orchestration tools such as System Centre Orchestrator, alongside strong practical knowledge of Azure automation services, including Runbooks, Logic Apps and Function Apps.
• Good understanding of DevOps practices, system design across a range of risk, impact and complexity levels, and familiarity with ITIL or similar best-practice frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with a track record of driving process improvement, operational efficiency, change management and organisational adoption.
