    Job description

    Summary:

    The Clinical Development Specialist I provides clinical education, orientation, and ongoing professional development to support safe, effective, and consistent organ donation practices across STA. This position delivers established clinical curriculum, simulation-based learning, competency validation, and coaching for Organ Recovery Coordinators and other clinical staff while maintaining accurate education and training records.

    Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Communication
      • Facilitates clinical orientation, ongoing education, and training programs for new and existing clinical staff using established curriculum and educational standards. 
      • Provides clear instruction and education related to clinical processes, procedures, competencies, and organ donation practices. 
      • Collaborates with Clinical Development team members, clinical leaders, subject matter experts, preceptors, and other stakeholders to support identified learning needs. 
      • Provides timely, constructive feedback to learners and preceptors regarding demonstrated knowledge, skills, and competency development. 
      • Supports preceptors through observation, coaching, and communication regarding learner progress and identified development needs. 
      • Communicates with learner progress, competency concerns, educational barriers, and other significant observations to appropriate stakeholders. 
      • Creates a supportive learning environment that encourages questions, participation, critical thinking, and professional development.
    • Time Management
      • Coordinates and delivers assigned orientation, clinical education, simulation, and ongoing training activities according to established schedules. 
      • Manages assigned learner activities, observations, competency validations, and educational responsibilities within established timelines. 
      • Prioritizes multiple learners, educational programs, training requests, documentation requirements, and departmental responsibilities. 
      • Coordinates with learners, preceptors, leaders, and Clinical Development team members to ensure required training and competency activities are completed timely. 
      • Completes learner assessments, training records, LMS documentation, and other required educational documentation within established deadlines. 
      • Maintains flexibility to support clinical education needs across varying schedules, locations, and operational priorities. 
      • Travels as necessary to support clinical education, observation, coaching, and competency validation.
    • Attention to Detail
      • Delivers established clinical curriculum consistently and in accordance with approved educational content, clinical standards, and organizational expectations. 
      • Conducts competency assessments and validates learner performance using established criteria and evaluation tools. 
      • Maintains accurate and complete LMS documentation, training records, competency assessments, and learner education records. 
      • Observes learners and clinical staff to assess application of knowledge, technical skills, clinical processes, and established competencies. 
      • Ensures educational materials and learning activities accurately reflect current clinical processes, procedures, and organizational expectations. 
      • Documents learner progress, educational outcomes, identified gaps, and completed competencies accurately and objectively. 
      • Supports annual competency validation activities and ensures required documentation is completed and maintained. 
      • Maintains appropriate confidentiality of learner, employee, clinical, donor, and organizational information.
    • Problem-Solving
      • Identifies learner knowledge, skill, or competency gaps through observation, assessment, simulation, and other educational activities. 
      • Adjusts instructional approaches within established curriculum to address individual learning needs and promote learner understanding. 
      • Collaborates with preceptors and appropriate leaders to develop strategies for addressing identified learning or competency gaps. 
      • Uses clinical knowledge and sound judgment to evaluate learner performance and determine when additional education, practice, observation, or escalation is appropriate. 
      • Identifies barriers affecting successful orientation, education, or competency development and works collaboratively to identify appropriate solutions. 
      • Applies adult learning principles and simulation-based learning techniques to reinforce clinical knowledge and skill development. 
      • Evaluates learner feedback and educational outcomes to identify opportunities to strengthen delivery of established training programs. 
      • Escalates significant competency, clinical practice, or learner performance concerns to appropriate leadership.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the purpose of the role.

    Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

    • Associate degree in nursing, biological science, or a related healthcare field is required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. 
    • A combination of alternative education and experience may be considered in lieu of the formal education requirements. 
    • Clinical healthcare experience related to nursing, respiratory therapy, paramedicine, organ donation, critical care, or a related healthcare discipline is preferred. 
    • Current RN, RT, Paramedic, or other applicable healthcare-related licensure is preferred. 
    • Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) or other applicable clinical certification is required within twelve (12) months of hire. 
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider certifications are required within twelve (12) months of hire. 
    • Knowledge of clinical healthcare practices and processes with the ability to effectively translate clinical information into learning experiences. 
    • Experience with or knowledge of adult learning principles and simulation-based education is preferred. 
    • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to effectively educate individuals and groups. 
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to provide constructive coaching and feedback. 
    • Demonstrated ability to assess learner performance and appropriately document competency and educational outcomes. 
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with educators, preceptors, clinical staff, leaders, and other stakeholders. 
    • Ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing clinical and educational needs, and work effectively in a dynamic environment. 
    • Ability to travel and maintain flexibility to support clinical education and operational needs. 
    • Current Driver’s License is required and maintained with an acceptable driving record as defined by STA policy.

    Compliance:

    This position is classified as OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Category III.

    • Employees in this role are not routinely expected to perform tasks that involve contact with blood, bodily fluids, or other potentially infectious materials. 
    • While exposure risk is minimal, employees are expected to follow organizational safety policies and report any potential exposure incidents immediately.
