Overview
The Stryten factory in Salina, Kansas is one of the largest lead-acid battery manufacturing sites in North America with 800 employees capable of producing more than 35,000 quality batteries per day. These batteries can be found in your car, in your boat or RV, or, in your lawn and garden equipment. Stryten proudly supports the local community by regularly participating in Project Salina, the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, and providing more than 100 volunteers for the Smoky Hill River Festival.
The major responsibility of the person performing the job of Safety & Health Supervisor is to provide identification and corrective action to related safety issues and hazards at the facility.

Responsibilities
- Implement safety programs at the facility to meet regulatory compliance and company goals.
- Develop engineering practices and designs to facilitate these programs.
- Perform assessments of work related and energy related hazards. In relation to these hazards identify appropriate PPE for work related hazards and appropriate control points and procedures for energy control hazards.
- Review testing analyses of noise levels and hazardous air contaminants and determine appropriate requirements for PPE and communication of hazards to employees. Also coordinate program leading to improved indoor air quality and LFL for lead exposure.
- Perform emergency response duties as required by the emergency response plan and participate in practice drills, plan reviews, employee safety committee meetings.
- Perform safety-related inspections and audits with appropriate corrective action.
- Perform accident investigations, identify causes, provide corrective actions, change of standard operating procedures and change of engineering design as necessary.
- Prepare and maintain analytical reports and data tracking.
- Represent the company in a positive working relationship with federal state, local regulatory agencies, and property insurance representatives.
- Participate in EHS Department safety training program.
- Supervise and lead janitorial staff
- Comply with current Quality Systems Requirements.
- Hazardous waste training shall be provided to the employee within six months of the date the employee filled this position and a review of this training provided every 12 months thereafter. The employee will complete a program of classroom instruction. The employee shall be supervised until training is completed. The training shall consist of a review of proper management of hazardous waste, satellite accumulation containers, how to review and prepare a hazardous waste manifest, and proper labeling requirements.
- Perform other work as assigned by Management including 5S cleaning
- Attend all meetings and training as scheduled
- Undertake assigned projects as directed by Plant or Department Manager
Qualifications
Education, Experience, Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental/safety, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret federal, state and local regulations and technical procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Safety Laws and Regulations.
- Ability to work effectively with other departments in the development of Safety programs.
- Ability to work with various software, office equipment, and PPE as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sitting, standing, bending, twisting, and walking as necessary.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, respirator, safety glasses, and metatarsal guard shoes, etc., as outlined in established policy.
- Occasional lifting from grams up to 50 pounds

- Exposure to extreme environmental conditions. (hot, cold, humid)
