    Job description

    Overview

Susquehanna is a global quantitative trading firm powered by scientific rigor, curiosity, and innovation. Our culture is intellectually driven and highly collaborative, bringing together researchers, engineers, and traders to design and deploy impactful strategies in our systematic trading environment. To meet the unique challenges of global markets, Susquehanna applies machine learning and advanced quantitative research to vast datasets in order to uncover actionable insights and build effective strategies. By uniting deep market expertise with cutting-edge technology, we excel in solving complex problems and pushing boundaries together.

A DevOps Engineer in the Data Driven Trading (DDT) team ensures the smooth development, delivery, and ongoing operation of the software systems the desk depends on. We partner with developers, quantitative researchers, and traders in Dublin and across the globe to deliver reliable, efficient software at scale.

The role focuses on production stability, CI/CD reliability, robust tooling, and enabling engineering teams to build and ship software efficiently across a highly distributed environment.

You will work closely with global engineering and DevOps resources to operate and improve the systems that are a critical dependency for the trading desk. The primary focus of the role is to improve the reliability and operational effectiveness of Quantitative Research tools and systems, while streamlining new capabilities that unlock value for the desk.

The successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced, distributed engineering environment and is comfortable participating in critical parts of the delivery pipeline. They combine strong operational discipline with a proactive approach to automation and continuous improvement, and are curious about applying AI to reduce repetitive work. They communicate clearly with developers and traders, take initiative in diagnosing complex issues, and consistently drive problems to resolution. A successful engineer in this role is someone who not only solves problems, but also strengthens the systems, tools, and processes that prevent those problems from recurring.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Member of the DevOps team within the DDT trading desk
    • Responsible for the operations of critical systems used by the desk
    • Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents and change requests within defined SLAs, performing root-cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes to prevent recurrence
    • Manage and support production deployments across all development lifecycle stages, ensuring reliable data retrieval, retention, and compliance with data policies
    • Maintain and improve a large, distributed set of CI/CD pipelines — monitoring pipeline health, investigating execution failures, and driving remediation
    • Extend existing pipelines and build ad-hoc or pattern-based pipelines to support new project requirements
    • Identify recurring issues and implement automation or structural improvements to eliminate them
    • Update and maintain toolchains, build dependencies, and related infrastructure; apply retention policies across relevant systems and environments
    • Drive change that improves uptime and reliability of systems, including configuration and development work where appropriate
    • Act as an ambassador for excellence by ensuring change into the system is of high quality and fits the DDT DevOps global operating model
    • Conduct daily operational checks, triage issues, and coordinate timely resolution
    • Contribute to the evolution of DevOps practices, reliability engineering, and automation strategy
    • Member of a global follow-the-sun team, acting during EMEA hours
    • Develop expertise in Susquehanna's systems and business

    What we’re looking for

      • Professional operations mindset coupled with practical development experience to improve systems
      • Degree in a numerate subject
      • Evidence of taking accountability for system delivery
      • 2+ years professional experience using Python as a scripting language for orchestrating processes and systems; working knowledge of Bash and PowerShell
      • Hands-on experience with CI/CD orchestration tools (e.g., TeamCity)
      • Experience with Apache Airflow or other industry-standard ETL/orchestration frameworks
      • Proficiency with enterprise version control platforms (e.g., GitLab)
      • Experience working in a Linux environment
      • Understanding and practical application of security models (e.g., RBAC)
      • Exposure to deployment orchestration platforms (e.g., Octopus Deploy)
      • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
      • Ability to self-manage, self-motivate, and seek out process improvement opportunities
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable effective collaboration in a complex domain
      • Attention to detail and ability to react to changing priorities
      • A general interest in quantitative trading

      Desirable:

      • Exposure to cluster/grid management systems (e.g., Slurm)
      • Experience with dependency/environment management (e.g., Conda)
      • Familiarity with AI/ML workflow or orchestration tools
