About the role
This is a permanent full-time post and an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of Swansea’s detached and outreach youth work provision, working directly with young people in their own communities.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Youth Outreach Development Officer to contribute to the planning and support the delivery of a wide range of detached, street-based and mobile youth work sessions across Swansea. This will include direct engagement with young people, delivering activities, building relationships and supporting positive outcomes through informal education.
A key part of this role will involve working from a mobile youth provision (youth bus), supporting delivery across different communities and helping maintain a consistent and visible youth work presence. You will play an important role in engaging young people who may not access traditional services and supporting them to build confidence, develop skills and access wider opportunities.
In addition, the post holder will take on a key role in the day-to-day running of sessions, providing guidance and support to Youth Detached Workers and helping maintain safe, consistent and high-quality practice. In the absence of the Youth Outreach Development Officer, you will be expected to step up and take responsibility for the coordination and delivery of provision.
The role will include daytime, evening and some weekend work to meet the needs of young people.
Our ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, approachable and committed to working with young people, with the ability to build positive and trusted relationships within community settings.
You will have experience of working directly with young people and be confident in supporting the delivery of activities and informal learning opportunities in outreach and detached environments. You will also be able to take a lead during delivery, supporting less experienced staff and contributing to the safe and effective running of sessions.
You should hold the Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice or above, or be willing to work towards this qualification, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development.
You must have strong communication skills, an understanding of the issues affecting young people, and the ability to support safe, inclusive and relationship-based practice.
You must hold a full driving licence and be able to drive, as the role involves working across Swansea and supporting delivery from a mobile youth provision.
