    Job description

    Taos Ski Valley is hiring cooks at Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Pay starts at a minimum of $20.82 with hourly rate set based on experience and skill level.

    Cook positions span several levels of skill, all of which are responsible for the production of and quality control standards of food in a high-volume kitchen through peak periods of service.

    The nature of this job requires highly motivated, committed, and skilled individuals who can work with a team in a fast-paced environment to achieve customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for preparing and, using a full range of cooking methods and knife skills, cooking food consistent with recipes and what is printed on the guest’s ticket, ultimately ensuring that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality, and in a timely fashion.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    • Prepare food items according to standardized recipes, production guides, and guest tickets while maintaining quality, consistency and presentation standards.
    • Assist with food prep, mise en place, and station setup to ensure readiness for daily service and projected business levels.
    • Follow established recipes, portion standards, and proper cooking techniques to maintain product quality, control food costs, and minimize waste.
    • Complete opening and closing duties in accordance with departmental checklists and standard operating procedures.
    • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary workstations, equipment, refrigeration, storage areas, and food preparation spaces in accordance with health department standards.
    • Receive, transport, organize, and properly store food products and kitchen supplies while following food safety and inventory procedures.
    • Communicate effectively with chefs and front-of-house staff to ensure accurate, timely preparation and delivery of guest orders.
    • Assist with daily production planning and preparation based on projected business volumes.
    • Support the execution of catered events, special functions, and other Food & Beverage operations as assigned.
    • Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and company policies to maintain a safe and efficient kitchen environment.
    • Reliable attendance on all scheduled work days
    • Perform additional responsibilities, although not detailed, as requested by chef at any time

    Qualifications/Knowledge:

    • Must already have or being willing to complete the New Mexico Food Handler Certification upon hire.
    • Ambition to grow into higher position.
    • Working knowledge of the fundamentals of cooking.
    • Demonstrate the ability to handle, store, and rotate food properly.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of proper use and maintenance of major kitchen equipment including stoves, refrigeration, slicers, knives, dish machine, etc. 
    • Ability to read and employ math skills to follow recipes.
    • Ability to communicate in a positive and productive manner while performing duties.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings.

    Work Environment: 

    Taos Ski Valley, Inc. is often a fast-paced work environment, especially during Holiday and Peak days. TSVI is located in a high-altitude alpine environment.  Position may require travel on uneven, snow-packed, or icy terrain and may be exposed to wet, cold, and/or humid conditions. Must be able to work in close quarters and with other staff.

    Physical Demands of Position Include:

    Will often lift and carry up to 25 pounds. 90-100% of the time will be spent standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, tasting and smelling. Occasionally sitting – less than 15% of the time.

    Background Check:

    Positions dealing with children, of safety-sensitive and/or confidential nature, require driving or positions that handle cash may require a background check and MVR check. Employment is contingent upon a favorable background check and MVR check.
