About the Role
History is full of questionable decisions. We’re looking for someone who can turn them into a great story for Mr. Spherical.
We make animated YouTube videos about history, geopolitics and world events, and we need a writer who can make those subjects funny, engaging and worth sticking around for.
Think 70% entertainment, 30% education: strong characters, sharp dialogue, and real research underneath the comedy. Videos typically run 8–10 minutes, with an opening that earns attention and an ending that makes the whole story click.
We want viewers to leave laughing, knowing something new and feeling a little more curious about the world.
What You’ll Do
- Primarily write at least two long-form scripts a month, typically 8–10 minutes each, plus occasional Shorts, in Mr. Spherical’s voice.
- Pitch stories about history, geopolitics and world events, bringing your own ideas and developing those shared by the Creative Director.
- Research each story and check the facts, keeping the important context accurate while finding room for comedy.
- Write character-driven scenes with sharp dialogue and visual humour.
- Hook viewers early, keep the story moving and make the ending count. We care especially about setups that pay off and endings that bring the whole story together.
- Work through notes and rewrites with the Creative Director, who provides direction, feedback and final approval.
About You
- You’ve written long-form YouTube videos and can show us examples.
- Comedy, character writing and storytelling are your strengths.
- You understand YouTube pacing and retention, including what makes someone keep watching after the opening.
- You can research unfamiliar historical, geopolitical, or current events topics, verify your facts, handle sensitive topics, and turn them into clear, engaging stories
- You’re comfortable owning a script from pitch through revisions and meeting agreed deadlines.
- Your work has reached hundreds of thousands or millions of views, and you can talk about what helped it connect.
Experience in history or geopolitics is valuable, but strong comedy and character-driven storytelling come first.
