    Job description

    Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of building envelope systems.  Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representative, contractor’s representative and others as applicable regarding the construction site, project requirements, and testing, observation, and inspection requirements and results.  Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observation in the form of written and digital reports as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles and work areas. May assist with scheduling and dispatch of Technicians to project sites. Adhere to strict safety standards.

    Responsibilities

  1. Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures.
  2. Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
  3. Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
  4. Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the PM.
  5. Has experience and proficiency in multiple areas of field testing and inspection and or laboratory testing
  6. May train lower level technicians
  7. May lead the activities of other engineering technicians in the laboratory or on larger field projects.
  8. Maintains equipment and calibration.
  9. Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  10. Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  11. Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.
    • Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Comfortable working at heights, including on roofs, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.
    • Comfortable working from aerial lifts and elevated work platforms while following applicable safety procedures.
    • A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous hands-on or field experience with building envelope systems, including roofing, waterproofing, exterior wall systems, windows, storefronts, and/or curtain walls.
    • Experience performing or assisting with building envelope field observations.
    • Familiarity with common ASTM/AAMA testing procedures or similar building envelope testing standards.
    • Experience with roofing, below-grade and above-grade waterproofing systems, air/water barriers, and exterior cladding systems.
    • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and manufacturer installation requirements.
    • Experience preparing field reports, photographs, observation documentation, and testing reports.
    • Relevant industry certifications applicable to the services or project requirements, such as Registered Roof Observer (RRO) or similar building envelope, roofing, waterproofing, or testing certifications.
    • OSHA or other applicable construction-site safety training/certification is preferred.

    Required Qualifications

    • Relevant certification for the services or project requirements (e.g. Registered Roofing Observer (RRO))
    • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
