The Opportunity

We are seeking a Scientist – Contaminated Land to join our Oceans & Environment team in Perth.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career environmental scientist who has some experience in contaminated land, environmental site assessment or a related area and is looking to continue developing their technical and consulting capability.

Working alongside experienced contaminated land and environmental professionals, you will contribute to a range of projects involving the investigation, assessment and management of contaminated sites.

You will have the opportunity to build your experience across field investigations, environmental sampling, data interpretation and technical reporting while learning from senior specialists with extensive experience in contaminated land assessment, remediation and environmental risk.

As your experience develops, you will be given increasing autonomy, direct client exposure and opportunities to manage smaller projects.

What you'll be involved in

Your responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking contaminated land and environmental site investigations
• Planning and participating in fieldwork, site inspections and environmental sampling programs
• Collecting, managing, analysing and interpreting environmental data
• Supporting preliminary and detailed site investigations
• Contributing to the assessment of contamination and environmental risks
• Assisting with remediation and site management projects
• Preparing clear, accurate and high-quality technical reports and environmental advice
• Working with senior technical specialists on complex contaminated land projects
• Supporting projects involving a range of contaminants which may include hydrocarbons, heavy metals, PFAS, persistent organic pollutants and asbestos
• Liaising with laboratories, contractors, clients and other project stakeholders
• Preparing scopes of work and project costings under the guidance of senior team members
• Managing discrete or smaller projects as your capability and experience develop
• Monitoring project quality, risks, budgets and timelines
• Working collaboratively across multidisciplinary project teams
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance in both field and office-based activities

About you

We are looking for someone who is technically curious, practical and keen to build a career in contaminated land and environmental consulting.

You will ideally bring:

• 4 - 7 years relevant experience.
• A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Chemistry or another relevant discipline
• Relevant experience in contaminated land, environmental consulting, site investigation or a related field
• Experience undertaking environmental fieldwork, site investigations or sampling
• An understanding of contaminated land assessment principles and environmental data
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good technical report writing skills and attention to detail
• The ability to confidently work in the field as well as contribute to technical and reporting activities in the office
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from experienced technical specialists
• The ability to work independently while knowing when to seek technical guidance
• An understanding of project delivery including quality, safety, time and budget considerations
• A commitment to ongoing professional and technical development
