    Job description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
The Boring Company is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Remote Operations Engineer to observe, advise, and direct all remotely-controlled mining operations. This role is best suited for someone with a test, reliability, or operations engineering mindset who can understand complex equipment behavior, communicate clearly, and drive consistency across machine operations.
As a Remote Operations Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of our tunneling projects, interfacing with various teams within the construction operations with a high sense of urgency. This role requires a strong technical background and the ability to work long hours. Remote Operations Engineers should expect to spend most of their time working in the Global Operations Control Center (GOCC) and occasionally travel to our various commercial and development projects.
    Responsibilities
    • Remotely observe, advise, and direct mining operations from the Global Operations Control Center (GOCC).
    • Record and document mining-process failures that affect cost, speed, or reliability.
    • Develop and maintain documentation (including work instructions, procedures, and bills of materials) that are used to standardize mining operations and maximize project efficiency.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies for optimizing field operations, improving productivity, and reducing downtime.
    • Monitor and analyze production data to identify areas for improvement, and propose and implement solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
    • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure work environment for all team members.
    • Provide technical expertise and support during the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of tunneling equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and robotic systems.
    • Develop and implement training programs for field and operations personnel to enhance their technical skills and ensure adherence to protocols.
    • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in tunneling technology, sharing knowledge and best practices with the team.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, production engineering, manufacturing, logistics, integration engineering, project management, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
    • Proven experience in remote-controlled field operations, preferably in a military, mining, or infrastructure-related industry.
    • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and robotic systems.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically and strategically.
    • Proficient in data analysis and familiarity with tools for data-driven decision making.
    • Solid project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage resources effectively.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders.
    • Comfortable with commuting to Bastrop, TX as this role is 100% in person (no work from home)
    • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Willingness to work long hours, including spending up to 10% of the time in the tunnel (travel away from Global Operations Control Center to actual commercial projects).
    • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in construction or similar industries.
    • Managing operations is a logistical dance — experience with supply chain management and logistics is highly desirable.
    Culture
We're a team of dedicated, smart, and scrappy people. Our employees are passionate about our mission and determined to innovate at every opportunity.
    Benefits
We offer employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, paid holidays, paid vacation, and a competitive amount of equity for all permanent employees.

    About the company

    The Boring Company

To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D, which means either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight and won't fall on your head. A large network of tunnels many levels deep would fix congestion in any city, no matter how large it grew (just keep adding levels). The key to making this work is increasing tunneling speed and dropping costs by a factor of 10 or more – this is the goal of The Boring Company. Fast to dig, low cost tunnels would also make Hyperloop adoption viable and enable rapid transit across densely populated regions, enabling travel from New York to Washington DC in less than 30 minutes.
