    Job description

    Job Title: Career Learner Assistant
    Department: Careers Advice and Guidance 
    Salary: £26,537 - £28,761
    Job Type: 35 hours per week, permanent
    Career Learner Assistants work within the Careers Advice and Guidance department to support the delivery of the colleges career programme. Main duties include providing impartial careers advice and guidance to prospective college applicants. This can include advice on relevant programmes of study and progression routes, responding to queries from the college online application system, responding to email enquiries and operating a drop-in IAG service to applicants.
    This post also includes supporting the college in delivering a career programme to learners. This can include activities such as support with applications to higher education, offering course advice to students, group work, attendance at college and external events and supporting staff to deliver a service that meets the needs of all students and clients.
    The Careers Advice and Guidance Team is currently based across all college centres and the post holder may be required to work across various sites on occasion.
    1. To provide impartial information, advice, and guidance to college applicants on training, course and apprenticeship options
    2. To respond to email and phone enquiries offering IAG to applicants
    3. To support the Careers Advice and Guidance Team with the delivery of on-course advice and guidance activities to current students.
    4. To provide general on-course IAG to current students
    5. To manage referrals from Admissions, Course Enquiries Team and curriculum staff using the Digital Enrolment System and other college databases
    6. To signpost students to digital resources, independent guidance tools and careers information.
    7. To plan and deliver high quality group sessions to students on a range of topics.
    8. To support college recruitment by regularly liaising with relevant teams such as Admissions, Course Enquiry Team, Apprenticeship Team and Learning Support
    9. To make detailed records of interactions with students and enquirers using the college information systems
    10. To refer students and college applicants to appropriate individuals and agencies, both inside and outside college
    11. To use and maintain appropriate records of information and advice activities in line with confidentiality and GDPR policies and procedures
    12. To acquire and maintain up-to-date knowledge on course information, progression routes, and relevant financial information.
    13. To participate fully in staff development and in-service training as required.
    14. To carry out such other relevant and appropriate duties within the framework of a post of this grade that may from time to time be required and at a location determined by the needs of the service.
    15. To represent the college and Careers Advice and Guidance Team during open days, careers events and external partner activities.
    Essential Criteria 
    1. A recognised careers advise & guidance qualification at Level 4 or willingness to work towards.
    2. Good knowledge of and experience using a range of IT systems
    3. Ability to work under pressure and operate flexibly
    4. Awareness and commitment to following procedures relating to safeguarding; confidentiality; data protection and equality, diversity and inclusivity within an educational environment
    5. Recent experience delivering information, advice and guidance
    6. Experience of providing 1 to 1 careers, information and advice and guidance to young people and adults
    7. Experience planning and delivering high quality career group work on a range of careers and employability topics
    8. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of service users
    9. Ability to produce clear, consistent and accurate records using college information systems
    10. Commitment to own self development and the ability to reflect on own performance
    11. Experience of supporting students with applications to higher education
    12. Awareness of barriers that can prevent students from accessing education
    13. Ability to manage own time effectively and prioritise workload
    14. Able to meet deadlines and meet key targets
    Desirable Criteria
    1. Educated to degree level or equivalent
    2. Broad knowledge of the range of post 16 education, training and employment opportunities available
    3. Experience using a range of digital careers resources and platforms
    4. Experience of supporting students with applications to higher education
    5. Ability to produce high quality careers and LMI resources
