    Job description

    Job Title: Cleaning Operative
    Department: Estates/Soft Services
    Salary: £21,522.66 - £22,809.81
    FTE £25,299 - £26,812
    Job type: Part-time 25 hours per week, permanent
    To provide a high standard of cleaning and hygiene across the college campus, ensuring classrooms, offices, communal areas, toilets and other facilities are clean, safe and well maintained for students, staff and visitors.
    1. Clean classrooms, lecture rooms, offices, corridors, stairways and communal areas to a high standard.
    2. Clean and sanitise toilets, washrooms and other high-use areas.
    3. Vacuum, sweep, mop and maintain a variety of floor surfaces.
    4. Empty waste bins and recycling bins and dispose of waste safely.
    5. Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, fitting, doors and other surfaces.
    6. Replenish cleaning materials and washroom supplies when required
    7. Report any damage, hazards, maintenance issues or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
    8. Follow college cleaning schedules, procedures and health and safety requirements.
    9. Use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely and in accordance with instructions.
    10. Maintain confidentiality and behave professionally when working around students and staff.
    11. Support occasional deep-cleaning activities and college events where and when required.
    12. Carry out other reasonable cleaning duties as directed/instructed by the cleaning supervisor.
    13. Must have a degree of flexibility in line with the needs of the organisation.
    Working Conditions:
    The role may involve working across different sites/areas of the college and may include early morning, evening shifts. The postholder will be required to work around students, staff and visitors while maintaining a professional and courteous manner.
    Safeguarding: 
    The postholder will be expected to comply with the college’s safeguarding policies and procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe environment for students, staff and visitors. Appropriate pre-employment and safeguarding checks may be required.
    1. Previous cleaning experience, preferably in an educational, commercial or similar environment
    2. Good attention to detail
    3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    4. Reliable, punctual and responsible approach to work
    5. Ability to follow instructions, cleaning schedules and health and safety procedures
    6. Good communication skills
    7. Physically able to carry out cleaning duties, including standing, bending and moving cleaning equipment
    8. Experience working in a school, college, university or other educational setting
    9. Knowledge of COSHH and safe handling of cleaning chemicals
    10. Knowledge of relevant workplace health and safety procedures
