    The Associate Underwriting Control Specialist, Personal Lines is responsible for validating risk information, conducting client outreach, identifying potential fraud indicators, and processing underwriting transactions within established guidelines and delegated authority. Working in a fast-paced environment, the role supports underwriting quality, fraud prevention, and the client experience through accurate risk assessment, thorough documentation, and timely transaction processing. Success in this position requires sound judgment, strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

    How you will create impact:

    • Protect profitability and reduce risk by validating client information, identifying potential fraud indicators, and ensuring accurate risk classification and rating.
    • Support underwriting excellence by reviewing multiple data sources, applying sound judgment, and processing policy transactions within established guidelines and delegated authority.
    • Contribute to fraud prevention efforts by gathering, documenting, and escalating intelligence on suspicious activity, emerging trends, and broader fraudulent behavior.
    • Deliver a strong client experience through professional outbound client interactions, effective communication, and confident handling of sensitive or difficult conversations.
    • Drive operational success by managing queue-based work, balancing productivity and quality expectations, and maintaining accurate documentation in underwriting systems.
    • Collaborate across functional teams with Underwriting, Claims, Fraud, Special Investigations, and operational partners to share insights, support investigations, and improve prevention strategies.
    • Leverage technology and data to understand client history, assess risk, and make informed decisions that align with underwriting appetite and business objectives.
    • Support continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements, escalating emerging issues and trends, and contributing to a culture of learning, quality, and innovation.

    To join our team:

    • College diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 2–4 years of experience in a Personal Lines and Property & Casualty insurance environment.
    • Valid Ontario Other Than Life (OTL) license
    • CIP designation or actively pursuing completion.
    • Strong analytical, investigative, and critical-thinking skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to manage difficult conversations professionally.
    • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
    • Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining required licensing and certifications.
    • This position primarily works with majority non-francophone groups, and teams located outside of Québec, and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.

    Salary information​

    Expected salary $50,280.00 to $83,800.00 CAD

    Salary placement​

    The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.​

    Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
