Grain Elevator Operations

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the peak work hours. From September until November hours will be 7am - 7pm.

• As a Grain Elevator General Labor Operator you must work safely within company policy, procedures, and governmental regulations and fully participate in company safety programs
• Perform critical operations to keep facility running
• This position is expected to assist all areas of the unloading, loading and transferring of grain and grain products by truck and rail operations
• Must develop a knowledge of the product you are dealing with and its hazardous properties
• Understand the proper operation of conveyance equipment that is utilized in the shipping, receiving and transferring of grain and grain products and the associated safety systems of that equipment
• Provide a high level of customer service by displaying courteous, helpful, knowledgeable interaction and behaviors.
• House keeping, sweeping, shoveling, etc. as related, but not limited to, the cleanliness and orderliness of the grain handling area (tunnels, concrete grounds, grass areas, etc.), as well as any areas within the plant as delegated by position supervisor
• Monitor equipment to ensure it is in good working order, participate in the overall maintenance of the facility and equipment - notify management of any necessary repairs or possible equipment concerns. Removes choke-ups, cleans spills and follows proper safety policies while doing such
• Be an involved/engaged member of a team and be willing to act and think independently.

·         Running the grain scale, as this will be a large part of this position, depending on the time of the year.

·         Other duties as assigned

Work Environment for the Grain Elevator General Labor:

This job operates in an outdoor environment. There is exposure to grain dust, weather elements, heavy truck and machinery activity.  Includes working at heights up to 150’.   Harnesses and other safety equipment are required in some situations, must be willing/able to perform task while wearing these items.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, handle heights up to 150 feet, and work in all weather conditions. This is a manual labor job. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively. Must be safety oriented.

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2-year work experience at grain handling facility.
• Working knowledge of PLC/Controls.
• Demonstrated ability to read Amp and percentage meters.

·         Mathematical concepts – percentages, decimals, multiplication. Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge.

·         Preferably good with technology, computers and basic Microsoft skills.
