    Title: Employment Specialist (Veteran Outreach)

    Location: 14 Gabriel Drive, Augusta, ME 04330 (frequent travel required)

    Reports to: Program Director

    Compensation: $22-$24 Per Hour

    Position Summary

    As Employment Specialist (Veteran Outreach), you will deliver direct employment, reentry, and supportive-service coordination to eligible incarcerated and formerly incarcerated veterans through Veterans Forward - Maine IVTP. This position combines facility-based outreach and recruitment, intake and assessment, individualized employment planning, job readiness, training navigation, employer matching, placement support, and post-release retention coaching.

    Additionally, you will be assigned to deliver services both in prisons and jails (pre-release), and in the community (post-release) statewide in Maine. You will be responsible for maintaining continuity from pre-release planning through community reentry and employment.

    Services are participant-centered, employment-focused, and coordinated with MDOC, VA/VJO, Maine CareerCenters/JVSG, housing providers, training partners, employers, and other veteran and reentry resources.

    Key Responsibilities

    Education & Experience

    • High school diploma or GED (required).
    • Associate or bachelor's degree in human services, workforce development, criminal justice, social services, or a related field (preferred).
    • Minimum two (2) years of experience in workforce development, veteran services, corrections/reentry, case management, employment services, peer support, community outreach, or a related field (required).
    • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel statewide, including correctional facilities (required).
    • Veteran of the United States Armed Forces or National Guard.
    • Experience working with justice-involved veterans or people returning from correctional settings.
    • Experience with Maine CareerCenters/JVSG, VA/VJO, SSVF, housing programs, apprenticeship, or employer development.
    • Experience using case-management and workforce reporting systems.
    • Training in military cultural competency, crisis response, suicide prevention, or Mental Health First Aid.
    • Facility-Based Outreach, Recruitment, and Engagement.
    • Intake, Eligibility Verification, and Comprehensive Assessment.
    • Individualized Employment Planning and Pre-Release Readiness.
    • Post-Release Reentry, Stabilization, and Supportive Services.
    • Training, Employer Engagement, and Employment Placement.
    • Employment Retention and Follow-Up.
    • Documentation, Data Quality, and Team Accountability.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Ability to work independently in carceral institutional and community settings.
    • Veteran and military culture; reentry and employment barriers; career coaching; job development and employer engagement; supportive-service coordination; documentation and case management; motivational engagement; public speaking/group facilitation.
    • Technology use skills including Microsoft Office Suite, case-management systems, desktop, laptop, mobile devices.
    • Regular travel to correctional facilities, Veterans Forward service sites, CareerCenters, partner agencies, employer locations, hiring events, and participant appointments statewide.
    • Ability to comply with correctional-facility security, access, dress, conduct, and scheduling requirements.
    • Strong ability to engage participants facing multiple barriers and maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and accurate documentation (required).
    • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
    • Reliable transportation and regular statewide travel is required (Mileage reimbursement is provided for work-related travel from assigned work locations).
