    Position Summary:

    We are seeking a full-time Outpatient Adult Psychiatrist at our SW Community Service CTR., who will report to the Lead Psychiatrist. 

    The core duties of this position will be to assess patients’ mental health through psychiatric evaluations, interviews and all applicable assessments including medical condition reviews, provide psychiatric medication maintenance and monitoring which are performed according to State and Program Standards and as well as standards deemed appropriate by the Chief Medical Officer.

    The Psychiatrist in this role will make appropriate treatment recommendations for people with major mental illnesses like Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorders, major depressive disorders, Dual Diagnosed disorders and others. The incumbent will provide ongoing Medication Maintenance services, crisis services as needed for persons under their care. Additionally, this role will provide leadership to other treatment team members through clinical staffing and promote long term recovery for the patients they serve.

    Essential Job Functions: 

    • Identify mental health conditions such as Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorders, ADHD, adult autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, self-harm or suicidal thoughts, PTSD and trauma-related issues using specialized diagnostic criteria.
    • Comprehensive evaluations through psychiatric, developmental, and physical assessments by interviewing patients, observing behavior, and talking with family members. Use talk therapy, behavioral modification techniques, or coordinates specific psychological treatments tailored to the patients at clinical and developmental stage.
    • Provide crisis resolution services and make appropriate recommendations for other crisis services as needed. 
    • Prescribes, Maintains and monitor medications (such as; Antipsychotics, Mood Stabilizers, Antidepressant Stimulants) when medically necessary, carefully tracking dosages and side effects. 
    • This position may provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams, i.e. APRN, and therapists, to create a unified holistic support system for patients and family, additional clinical leadership and assistance from the Medical Director as well. 
    • Complete all required documentation necessary to ensure compliance with required Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, The Harris Center, and organizational standards 100% of the time.  
    • Prescriptive Authority and provide Supervision of RN's and PA’s, if applicable. 
    • Perform other related duties or responsibilities as requested. 

    Requirements:

    • Successful completion of ACGME accredited general psychiatry residency training prior to starting employment.

    • Demonstrated experience working with patients and their families, fostering an interdisciplinary team approach.

    •  Experience handling patients with Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorders essential.

    • Unrestricted Licensed Doctor of Medicine (MD) in the state of Texas required, (Specialty in Psychiatry), Board Certified in General Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent, and Forensic, through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), Board Eligible. 
    • Must have DEA and maintain a current controlled Substance Registration certificate from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. 
    • Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Registered 
    • Eligible for credentialing and privileging within the local mental health authority. 
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) highly encouraged. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA). 

    Preferred:

    • Interest or experience working with underserved populations/communities and people with behavioral health and IDD needs. 
    • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams or integrated behavioral health settings. 
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish welcomed.
