    Job description

    Overview

    REPORTS TO:           Center Director

    SUPERVISES:            N/A

    STATUS:                     Nonexempt

    SCHEDULE:              Part Time (25 hours per week)

    FUNCTION:               Responsible for daily cooking and other duties associated with the operation of the learning center’s food program.

    Responsibilities

    Cooking

  1. Cooks/prepares all meals and snacks for children enrolled in the center.
  2. Follows specifications of food menu.
  3. Prepares proper serving sizes/portions based on children’s ages.
  4. Cleaning

  5. Keeps the kitchen, refrigerator/freezer and storage areas properly cleaned and sanitized.
  6. Cleans all counter tops as needed and/or daily.
  7. Cleans all counter/table legs weekly.
  8. Sweeps kitchen daily.
  9. Washes dish towels/rags as needed.
  10. Washes all dishes daily.
  11. Takes out trash daily.
  12. Rotate all food

  13. Plans the usage of food in order to avoid waste.
  14. Rotate the food from the food storage areas to the refrigerator/freezer.
  15. Throws away all expired food.
  16. Responsible for assisting with ordering all food and maintaining inventory:

  17. Bi-Weekly or as-needed inventory of all food/supplies ordered through vendor.
  18. Weekly or as needed planning, shopping, transportation for all food/supplies to be purchased at the grocery store.
  19. Communicates any ordering needs or concerns with the center director or administrative assistant.
  20. Other:

  21. Logs all time worked with the food program.
  22. Acquires and maintains any training, certifications or knowledge needed to carry out food duties.
  23. Follows all USDA CACFP guidelines.
  24. Maintains kitchen/food standards that are in compliance with local health department guidelines.
  25. Children:

  26. Will care for children as needed and assist teachers by caring for children during teacher lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, etc.
  27. Qualifications

    • High School Diploma
    • Must be able to follow directions.
    • Must be able to cook and handle the pressure of a fast paced environment.
    • Must be able to communicate with local vendors in a professional manner.
    • Must be able to meet all requirements concerning food preparation.
    • Must allow all Salvation Army guidelines.
