Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role will be responsible for standard warehouse duties of receiving, sorting, putting away, picking and shipping of various donations, primarily goods and food products for a great cause. Regular power equipment (forklift, power cart) use is required as well as a significant amount of manual work and use of computer systems to help supply donated goods to member agencies who help the needy in our communities.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:

• Perform routine maintenance (snow shovelling, sweeping)
• Receive all donations in a designated area
• Handle, sort, dispose of recycle and waste material.
• Sort all donated items making sure the good quality items are kept for redistribution
• Be willing to work in the sorting area when and if necessary
• Treat each customer fairly, in a pleasant and professional manner.
• Keep high standards of cleanliness and efficiency in the sorting and receiving are

Health and Safety

• Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits, clean spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the store).
• Maintain an attractive organized and safe appearance of the worksite.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.

Education, Qualification & Certifications:

• Completion of some high school course work.
• Valid driver's license
• Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Knowledge:

• At least 6 months of related experience in a store or warehouse environment.
• Knowledge of lifting guidelines.

Skills and Capabilities:

• To have the ability to sustain a daily routine of heavy lifting, reaching and bending.
• • Proven attention to detail and the ability to follow legislation, directions, policies, procedures and well-defined steps.
• Lift, move, or transport weights up to 50 lbs, but regular weights would normally fall under 40 lbs.
• Adapt to changes and interruptions in your normal work routine
• Maintain confidentiality with regards to information relating to employment.
• A willingness to work with individuals or groups of differing backgrounds and cultures other than your own.
• A willingness to adhere to a dress code of neatness and cleanliness.
• Valid Criminal Record Check

Starting wage of $18.00 per hour

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $15.35 to $18.86 with a maximum of $22.64.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
