Aide-Accompanist

Location: Harrison High School

6 hours/day for a total of 30 hours/week

$16.12/hour highly qualified or $15.62/hour not highly qualified

180 day (student calendar) 

Job Description:

Under the direction of the choir director, accompany school choirs during class rehearsals, evening concerts, weekend contests, and the school musical. Needs to be able to play vocal parts in written music and chord charts. Being able to sing a part and play is a plus. Must communicate well with the director and be flexible for changes in the schedule such as two-hour delays and testing.

Examples of Duties:

• Perform piano accompaniment for school choirs' rehearsals, performances, and contests.
• Serve as rehearsal/pit accompanist for the school musical.
• Lead section rehearsals by playing parts, identifying student mistakes and problem areas, correcting mistakes and providing the right notes and rhythms.
• Provide assistance to substitute teachers by leading rehearsals as necessary.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

• Advanced piano skills, Music Theory, Vocal Techniques
• Sight-reading, Conducting, Transposing, and Arranging

Ability to:

• Understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Work cooperatively and patiently with others, especially teenagers.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Play piano at an advanced level and sight-read complex musical scores
• Accompany choirs, soloists, and small ensembles
• Assist students in learning vocal music.
• Transpose and arrange music as needed.
