The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant/Associate Professor, Department of Brain Health, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine [R0153533]
The Department of Brain Health in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV is accepting applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track) faculty member on a 9-month appointment. The successful applicant will perform leading edge research in neuroscience. The ideal candidate will have a research program applicable to large scale informatics and the use of AI methods in their investigations. Candidates with expertise in the development, establishment, or validation of digital biomarkers using novel analytic approaches are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a strong research program as well as one that intersects with existing strengths in the Department of Brain Health. Current strengths in the department with which the faculty member would interact include a Clinical Trials Observatory (directed by Dr. Jeffrey Cummings), fluid biomarker discovery laboratory, a program for study of neurodegenerative disorder risk and resilience across diverse and underserved groups, a cutting-edge nanomaterial laboratory devoted to developing stroke treatments, and a Biomarker Observatory. Application of the candidate’s computational skills across the Brain Health programs is anticipated. The position includes mentoring, advising and supervising graduate students in the UNLV Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Ph.D. program as well as teaching in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine. Faculty members are expected to meet University criteria related to research, teaching, and service, and are expected to adhere to UNLV Top Tier Initiatives regarding research productivity, including securing extramural grant support and publication in high impact peer reviewed journals.
The Department of Brain Health is primarily focused on neurodegenerative disease research that spans from investigations of progress and process in clinical trials, health disparities in neurodegenerative diseases, identification and the examination of biomarkers of disease, and preclinical investigations of mechanisms driving disease and novel treatments in Alzheimer’s disease, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Stroke.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background and/or credit check.
This position requires a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or closely related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
The candidate’s educational credentials, terminal degree, experience in an academic medical institution or equivalency, research and scholarly activity will be considered in determining the candidate’s recommended rank. The SOM Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee will use the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (SOM) promotion criteria to recommend rank to the Dean of the SOM. Tenure consideration may be given upon hire on a case-by-case basis depending on verified previous credentials, the FAPT recommendation, and SOM Dean's recommendation.
