The Role: Relief/Casual – Developmental Wellness Worker (24/7 Programs)

As a Relief Developmental Wellness Worker, you will have the opportunity to work across a variety of 24/7 programs supporting youth, young adults and adult women in different living situations and supportive environments. Participants may be experiencing housing instability, homelessness, family conflict, mental health concerns, substance use, trauma, poverty, social isolation and other complex life circumstances.

This is an excellent opportunity to build broad experience in human services while learning how consistent practice can adapt to different populations, program environments, and individual needs. You will gain exposure to a range of participants, develop your skills across different settings and work alongside experienced teams while being grounded in the same Trellis values, frameworks and approaches.

Our 24/7 programs are grounded in recovery-oriented, housing-focused, trauma-informed, strengths-based and relationship-centred practice. Across programs, we focus on building trusting relationships, promoting safety and wellbeing, supporting participant goals and strengths, strengthening natural and community supports, and creating opportunities for growth and meaningful connection.

As a Relief Developmental Wellness Worker, your ability to adapt, learn quickly and build relationships across different environments is essential. You will work collaboratively with program teams, participants, families and natural supports, Case Managers, community partners and other service providers to provide consistent, responsive and participant-centred support.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

Build trusting, respectful and professional relationships with participants, recognizing their lived experience, strengths, goals and individual circumstances.
Provide participant-centred support that promotes safety, wellbeing, independence, recovery, housing stability and meaningful natural supports & community connection.
Support participants to identify and work toward their goals, which may include housing, education, employment, relationships, wellness, life skills, recovery, family reunification, and community participation.
Adapt your approach to the needs of different participants and program environments, while consistently applying Trellis' values, frameworks and practice expectations.
Use recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, strengths-based and relationship-based approaches when responding to everyday needs, conflict, crisis and other complex situations.
Support safe, welcoming and inclusive living environments, balancing individual needs, preferences and choices with the safety and wellbeing of the broader household and community.
Support natural and community connections, including family, friends, cultural communities, schools, employment, healthcare and other supports identified as important by participants.
Complete accurate and timely documentation, including case notes, service plans, safety plans, incident reports and other program records.
Participate in household activities, team meetings, training and other program responsibilities, contributing to positive living environments and effective service delivery.
Other duties as required.

Specific responsibilities and support approaches will vary depending on the program, participant population and living environment in which you are working.

Relief Availability & Work Expectations:

As a Relief Developmental Wellness Worker, you will be expected to maintain regular availability to support the operational needs of Trellis' 24/7 programs.

Relief staff are required to update their availability Monthly
Staff may be scheduled in advance based on their posted availability, in addition to having opportunities to pick up last-minute shifts.
Relief staff must be available for a minimum of two peak shifts per month. Peak shifts include awake overnight, Friday evening, weekend and statutory holiday shifts.
Relief staff are also required to be available for one additional shift per week.
This results in a minimum availability of approximately six to seven shifts per month, depending on the number of weeks in the month.
Relief staff are required to attend mandatory training and mandatory bi-monthly staff meetings.

Please note: Relief staff may be assigned to different 24/7 programs based on operational needs. Flexibility to work across different program environments is an expectation of this role.

Knowledge and Skill Expectations:

- Degree or diploma in Human Services such as Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Addictions and Mental Health, Community Rehabilitation or a related field, with relevant experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience supporting youth, young adults and/or adults experiencing complex and/or intersecting needs is an asset.
- Understanding of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, strength-based, and housing-focused practices.
- Understanding of Natural Supports and the importance of relationships and community connection in supporting wellbeing and recovery.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to listen, build trust, navigate difficult conversations and maintain professional boundaries.
- Ability to respond calmly and thoughtfully to crisis, risk and conflict, using sound judgment while balancing safety, autonomy and dignity.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a large 24/7 team, communicate effectively and contribute to shared accountability.
- Strong organizational, documentation and computer skills, with the ability to learn new databases and systems.
- Commitment to ongoing learning, reflective practice and professional development.
- Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certification.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Record Check
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence, reliable vehicle and $2 million liability insurance where driving is an operational requirement.

Reporting Relationship:

This position directly reports to a 24/7 Program Supervisor.
