    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Graduate Assistant for Marketing and Communications

    Pay Rate: Monthly stipends at $1,300/month

    The Graduate Assistant reports to the Assistant Director for Technology and will assist in digital communications, design, and presentations for Housing and Residence Life (HRL). The Graduate Assistant will support HRL social media, website updates, and marketing initiatives related to housing processes such as Returning Student Room Selection. The role is critical to supporting the success of HRL and enhancing the residential student experience at Tulane University.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Must be enrolled in a graduate program at Tulane University
    • Approximately 20 hours per week, including occasional evening and weekend commitments tied to key housing processes and events. The majority of hours will be completed during standard business hours (8:30am – 5:00pm)
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of and experience with marketing, general graphic design principles, and social media
    • Past involvement in Housing and Residence Life as an undergraduate student (i.e. Resident Advisor, Desk Services Coordinator, RHA, HRL programs, etc.)
    • Organizational ability, punctuality, and self-motivation
    • Exhibit a high level of professionalism
    • Experience with social media analytics and reporting tools (e.g., Google Analytics)
    • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) tools (e.g., Drupal) and basic web editing (HTML/CSS preferred)
    • Experience with video editing or multimedia content creation
    • (e.g., Canva, CapCut, Adobe Premiere)
    • Experience using social media management or scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social)
    • Familiarity with AI tools for content creation, editing, analytics support, and workflow optimization
    • Experience working with student-facing campaigns

    Responsibilities and/or Deliverables:

    • Ensure brand consistency across all digital and print communications
    • (e.g., maintaining Tulane University brand standards, including proper use of HRL logos, colors, and visual identity guidelines)
    • Monitor, respond to, and recommend content improvements based on social media engagement trends on various platforms including Facebook and Instagram and maintain a social media calendar
    • Assist in the development and execution of a departmental strategic marketing and communications plan, including goal setting and assessment
    • Independently create and revise marketing materials using Canva and other design tools, incorporating feedback from professional staff
    • Contribute content for and oversee creation and distribution of housing assignment-related publications.
    • Work with publications (print, electronic and social media) that educate stakeholders about housing options
    • Implement content updates to the Housing and Residence Life website
    • Help coordinate the marketing efforts for room selection for the following academic year
    • Help coordinate opening and closing communication for the residence halls
    • Assist in creating a marketing campaign for departmental hiring and recruitment positions
    • Represent HRL at various resource fairs for students

    Analytics, Website and Project Management:

    • Track and analyze social media and website performance metrics (e.g., engagement, reach, traffic, conversions) to evaluate effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities
    • Maintain and update website content using the university’s content management system (CMS)
    • Ensure content is accurate, accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with Tulane University brand standards
    • Support marketing and communication projects by managing timelines, tracking deliverables, and ensuring deadlines are met
    • Coordinate tasks and communication to support the successful execution of campaigns and initiatives

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Hold office hours: answer phones, answer emails, assist with other housing operations activities, assist with walk-in traffic and any other related programs
    • Work collaboratively with professional staff and colleagues in various departments within the Division of Student Affairs
    • Submit feedback and recommendations for future development of Housing and Residence Life operations
    • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Associate Directors, and Assistant Directors
    • Ensure digital content meets basic accessibility standards (e.g., alt text, readable formatting, inclusive language)
    • Maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and university data privacy standards when handling student information
