Substation Senior Electrical Engineer - Power

The Opportunity  

Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Substation Engineer to support Renewables/Utility/Power projects. The Senior Engineer acts as a technical leader and applies standard engineering techniques and procedures on substation design projects. Plans, schedules, conducts and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work.

What You’ll Do

1. Makes design recommendations, adaptations and modifications for utility substations, relay automation equipment and drawings associated.
2. Performs calculations using engineering formulas and skills.
3. Provides technical guidance to other engineers.
4. Additional duties may include tasks beyond what is listed, such as special projects, assisting colleagues, or new initiatives.

What We Expect from You

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required. ABET accredited program or equivalent required.
• CFIA license is a must (or similar PE or P.Eng) with proven 12 years in electrical project design.
• 15+ years of experience preferred in renewable energy, power systems, or a related industry.
• Proficient with substation protection and control design and industry standards.
• Capable of reviewing and producing design drawings, including one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel elevations.
• Ability to perform AC & DC substation studies.
• Capable of substation SCADA, communications, and network engineering a plus.
• Knowledge of substation electrical physical (apparatus) equipment a plus.
• Experience with commissioning and/or field engineering time a plus.
• Knowledge of basic relay settings a plus.
• Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) a plus.
• Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
• Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
• Ability to work in a hybrid mode schedule; 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.
• Must possess strong verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR level B2–C1). You should be comfortable articulating complex ideas and collaborating effectively within a global professional environment.
• Must have authorization to work legally in Costa Rica for any employer
