    Job Description

    Support the implementation of strategies that enhance the impact of United Way and provide programmatic coordination in key issue areas.  Support the management and distribution of grant funding to childcare providers, develop and implement strategies for addressing community needs through policy changes, provide project management support on key strategic initiatives, and represent United Way at community events and relevant stakeholder meetings.

    Responsibilities

    • Supports the coordination of regional collaborative initiatives involving non-profit organizations, municipalities, state agencies and philanthropic institutions.
    • Supports the management of grant processes, including developing applications, coordinating grant review committees, determining selection criteria, and facilitating funding recommendations.
    • Provides ongoing support to program grantees, including conducting site visits, establishing reporting processes, and compiling statistics on program impact.
    • Collaborates with Finance Department staff to ensure accurate and timely payments to grantee organizations.
    • Coordinates community coalitions pursuing regional goals, including facilitating meetings with key stakeholders, identifying and incorporating data into planning efforts, and effectively communicating coalition goals.
    • Supports the coordination of the Bold Goals Policy Committee and helps leadership in determining annual policy goals, implementing advocacy activities, and communicating with public officials.
    • Conducts research on policy solutions and assists in aligning United Way program activities with broader local, statewide and federal policy efforts.
    • Supports the creation of policy priorities and determining the appropriate level of United Way engagement in advocacy efforts.
    • Coordinates meetings with business leaders, government staff and elected officials to learn about policy priorities that advance United Way goals.
    • Supports United Way involvement in local, statewide and national coalitions that are working to advance policies.
    • Coordinates regional events that engage community partners and statewide leaders in key policy priority areas.
    • Coordinates Action Network activities, including convening partners around shared goals, assessing community needs, and developing strategic programs that will have measurable impacts.
    • Supports the development of strategies to engage partner organizations around key policy issues.
    • Participates in United Way’s fundraising activities as appropriate.
    • Supports the United Way’s annual allocations process.
    • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge & Skills:

    • Successful experience in group facilitation, volunteer management and community problem solving.
    • Willingness to continually grow and develop knowledge of local organizations and potential partnerships.
    • Eagerness to learn about and grow community knowledge of United Way and partner agencies.
    • Ability to organize and supervise collaborative efforts involving multiple volunteers, companies, and donors.
    • Ability to motivate self and others.
    • Strong administrative skills to successfully manage multiple coalition groups.
    • Strong professional verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must be able to demonstrate competency in word processing and Power Point applications, and a working knowledge of excel and database management.

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree required. 

    Experience:

    Three to five years experience working with education, health or social service agency preferred. 

    Background in community planning, volunteer management, advocacy or project management preferred. 

    Required:

    Valid driver’s license

    Reliable transportation

    Proof of automobile insurance. 

    Working Conditions:

    Normal office work environment in accordance with health and safety guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic.   

    Some travel and occasional overtime required.
