    Job description

    The USC Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, in partnership with the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine, is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Lab Technician II to join our team.

    This position is based in the ASCEND Shared Resource Laboratory, a dynamic CIRM-funded facility dedicated to expanding access to cutting-edge stem cell technologies. ASCEND’s mission is to democratize science by making disease models, experimental techniques, and tools accessible to beginners—while also offering deep expertise in organoid culture and modeling.

    Job Accountabilities:

    • Conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols. Collects field and/or laboratory measurements and data. Computes results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques.
    • Maintains accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments. Uses laboratory/computer equipment to conduct analyses of experiment data. Provides routine interpretations of analyses.
    • Handles and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
    • Maintains and organizes laboratory supplies. Monitors inventory levels and orders or secures supplies as needed.
    • Maintains research facility in orderly, operable condition. Maintains security and safety of equipment, samples, specimens and data.
    • Keep accurate and detailed notes and follow best TC standards and practices

    General Skills

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and public speaking ability
    • High computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Web research
    • Comfortable with RStudio and Seurat

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Undergraduate or MS degree in a life sciences field
    • Experience: molecular biology experience, single-cell data analysis, previous teaching experience.

    Preferred: 

    • A strong background in molecular biology and single-cell omics
    • Previous experience with routine molecular biology techniques such as qRT-PCR, IF, nucleic acid and protein extraction
    • Previous experience in higher level educational topics (CRISPR, tissue engineering scRNAseq, bioinformatics, spatial transcriptomics, cell and gene therapy)
    • Previous experience in course development

    The hourly rate range for this position is $25.71 - $31.30. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

    Minimum Education: Associate's degree, Specialized/technical training, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
    Minimum Experience: 2 years
    Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.
