Key Responsibilities

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an employment opportunity with our school.  We are seeking a dedicated and dependable candidate for a Student Life Technician - overnight position supporting students who are blind or visually impaired in our Bridges residential program.

This position is for the 26-27 school year.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As the Overnight Student Life Technician you will:

• Conduct regular supervision checks on students throughout the night, ensuring their safety and well-being while they sleep
• Respond promptly and follow prescribed procedures in emergency situations
• Report medical problems to medical staff and assist in rendering emergency and maintenance health care under the direction or a registered nurse
• Provide custodial support, including light cleaning of the residences, laundry, and dishes
• Complete preparation projects for the Residential Life program as assigned
• Assist students with nighttime routines as needed (e.g., dressing for bed, toileting, communication)
• Monitor and support student behavior as prescribed by written interventions
• Record corresponding data and report student progress to staff as needed
• Communicate with residential and school staff regarding student needs
• Follow all residential safety procedures, including accessibility best practices for students who are blind or visually impaired
• Perform other duties as assigned

Work Schedule

In coordination with the school year, August - June, 5 nights per week, 40 hours weekly. Overnight shift: 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning (Sunday 11:00 p.m. through Friday 7:00 a.m.). This position is for the 26-27 school year.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
The ideal candidate for this position will possess:

• Dependable and reliable, with a strong record of consistent attendance and follow-through
• Ability to remain calm, act quickly, and follow emergency procedures in crisis situations-including those that occur in the middle of the night
• Ability to work independently and with sound judgment, without constant supervision
• Comfortable making appropriate decisions overnight and knowing when and how to escalate to on-call staff or emergency services
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred (blindness/visual impairment experience helpful but not required)

Supplemental Information

• There are risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. being subject to possible physical attack.  Risks are related to the possibility or working with students who are non-compliant, self-abusive, and/or aggressive.
• This position has strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students with limited mobility and/or their personal needs equipment.  Must be able to lift and carry over 50 pounds.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.
