    Job description

    Pay: $35–$45/hour, depending on experience

Make a real difference in people's lives — not from behind a nurses' station, but out in the community, as part of a small, tight-knit care team that actually gets to know the people it serves.

    What Is ACT?

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is a different way to practice nursing. Instead of a hospital floor or a clinic waiting room, our team goes to where our clients live — meeting them at home, in shelters, or wherever they need us. You'll work closely with a small, multidisciplinary team of prescribers, therapists, peer support specialists, and case managers who see the same roughly 100 clients week after week, which means you get to build real relationships and watch real progress, not just manage a rotating caseload. If you're looking for psychiatric nursing with more autonomy, more variety, and more connection to your clients, this is it.

    About

Volunteers of America, Utah is an affiliate of a national, nonprofit, faith-based organization that has served communities across the United States for more than 125 years. Volunteers of America, Utah’s mission is to provide community-supported paths for those who are vulnerable to improve their lives and increase their self-reliance. Our programs serve people experiencing challenges related to mental health, substance use, and homelessness. We encourage all who are passionate about making a difference, including individuals with lived experience, to apply.

    Position Summary

As the RN on our ACT team, you'll work alongside our team psychiatrist and APRNs to manage medication administration, deliver medical care, and support the broader treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery goals of the people we serve.

    What You'll Do

    • Partner with the team psychiatrist and APRNs to manage the medication system, administer medications and medical care, arrange lab work, and keep documentation current
    • Monitor clients for medical issues and medication side effects, and coach both clients and teammates on what to watch for
    • Coordinate with pharmacies, medication reps, and outside providers to keep care seamless
    • Work with clients one-on-one to build strategies that help them stick with their medications — things like routines, reminders, and cues tailored to them
    • Make sure medications and injections go out on time, every time
    • Join daily team huddles and treatment planning meetings, where your clinical voice matters
    • Keep documentation current and meet ACT's minimum service standards

    Why Nurses Like Working Here

    • Real team, real support. You're never solo — you're backed by prescribers, therapists, peer specialists, and a case manager who all know your clients      too.
    • Meaningful, varied work. Every day looks different, and you'll see the direct impact of your care.
    • Mission-driven organization with 125+ years serving Utah communities, including staff with lived experience.

    Benefits

    • Low-cost medical, dental, and vision coverage
    • Health Savings Account, with employer contributions paid quarterly
    • 403(b) retirement plan with employer match (50% match up to 3%)
    • Employee Assistance Program for all employees
    • 33 paid days off to start: 11 observed holidays, 12 sick days, and 10 vacation days
      • Vacation increases to 12 days after 1 year, 15 days after 2 years, and more at 5 and 9 years of service
      • Sick and vacation time accrue hourly per pay period
    • $50,000 in employer-paid life insurance, with additional coverage available
    • Employee Referral Program, including cash bonuses and paid time off
