Plant Operator

Job Summary
Candidate will be expected to operate equipment with a high degree of competence, skill and proficiency. Performs start-up and shutdown procedures and monitors feed and materials flow and equipment settings throughout assigned responsibility area paying special attention to monitoring equipment and making adjustments as required to maximize production and to provide a quality product.
Essential Functions
• May be designated according to type of plant operated as Asphalt-Plant Operator (construction) or according to machine function as Crusher Operator (concrete prod.; construction).
• Operates processing plant and auxiliary units.
• Observes control panel gauges, dials, and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications.
• Maintains switch house equipment.
• Assists with plant inspections and repair and maintenance of plant equipment as required.
• Lubricates and may perform some repair work to crusher system.
• Performs housekeeping duties around crusher area, including shoveling. remove spilled aggregate material, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.

Responsibilities

Education
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate desired.
Experience
• Experience in the construction/mining/concrete industry preferred
• Preferred experience in operating plant crusher.
• Mechanical repair skills preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Mechanical skills preferred.
• Must be able to perform repetitive work on a continuous basis.
• Must have strong working knowledge of process control systems.
• Must be mechanically inclined and have ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems in relation to plant operations.
• Must have ability to effectively communicate in English, including reading and writing related to computer.
Other Requirements
• Should be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb vertical access ladders, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, or pull, push, as well as, bend and lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions of heat and cold.
• May be subject to wearing a respirator.
• Must be able to work required overtime which may include hours of up to or beyond scheduled hours.

Salary. The salary is prescribed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates will be placed according to union contract salary scale at $42.46 per hour.
