Position Summary:
As a Senior Database Engineer, you will be responsible for the administration, optimization, and maintenance of our database systems, including but not limited to PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. The ideal candidate should be proficient in AWS RDS management, with a strong focus on query optimization, schema optimization, and reducing the size of RDS instances through effective optimization techniques.
Responsibilities:
Database Management:
- Manage and administer PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Proficient in AWS RDS management, including setup, configuration, and optimization.
- Implement and maintain high availability, backup, and recovery strategies for database systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of databases with applications.
Performance Optimization:
- Conduct thorough query optimization to enhance database performance.
- Implement schema optimization techniques for improved efficiency.
- Focus on reducing the size of RDS instances through proactive optimization strategies.
Security and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce security best practices for databases.
- Ensure databases comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
- Establish and maintain monitoring systems to proactively identify and resolve database issues.
- Perform root cause analysis for database-related incidents and implement preventive measures.
Documentation:
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Train and mentor junior database administrators as needed.
Qualifications:
Required Skills:
- 4+ years of experience as a Database Engineer/Administrator.
- Proficiency in managing PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Strong experience in AWS RDS management and relevant AWS services.
- Expertise in query optimization and schema optimization techniques.
- Demonstrated success in reducing the size of RDS instances through optimization.
- Experienced to work on Unix/Linux terminal and PowerShell console
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in relevant database technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty).
- Familiarity with other database systems like MongoDB, Redis, AWS Aurora, etc.
Education:
- B.S./M.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
