    Department: Waynesboro Lab Support

    Scheduled

    Full Time, Evening shift (80 hours biweekly)

    Hours: 12pm - 8:30pm or 2:30pm - 11pm

    Occasional overnight shift may need to be covered.

    Rotation: Every third weekend and holidays.

    General Summary

    Performs a variety of technical and general duties at an advanced practitioner level. Functions in one or more laboratory division. Functions independently with minimal supervision. May perform charge duties.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:

    • Performs routine and/or specialized testing and procedures with supervision as appropriate.
    • Performs a variety of duties at progressively greater skill levels under varying degrees of supervision, records results. May operate a variety of laboratory instruments.
    • Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records.
    • Oversees the work of other personnel by training, allocating and monitoring work. Performs work of a similar nature.
    • Performs surveys and does comparative analyses of work units; may participate in research activities and investigates new products, equipment, techniques, methodologies, and introduces, demonstrates, effects, and recommends as is appropriate.
    • Inoculates, cultivates, classifies, and identifies microorganisms found in bodily fluids, exudates, skin scrapings, autopsy and surgical specimens in order to provide data on cause, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases.
    • May group or type blood of donors and recipients. May determine compatibility of donor blood products with intended recipient.
    • May perform chemical and/or immunological tests to identify and/or quantitate substances found in blood and other body fluids.
    • Counts, describes morphology of, and performs specialized studies on blood and other body fluid cells. Performs coagulation testing.
    • May consult with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services.
    • Trains other employees in day-to-day procedures.
    • Participates in department specific and/or system-wide projects of varying scope and duration.
    • Assists in implementing policies and procedures for department operation.

    Common Expectations:

    • Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.
    • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
    • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
    • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
    • Prepares solutions, reagents, etc. used for testing purposes.
    • Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications
    Minimum Education:

    • Bachelors Degree Required and
    • College Diploma As part of CAP requirements, a college diploma is required provided the field of study is indicated on the diploma. Required or
    • College Transcript Required

    Work Experience:

    • 3 years In Medical technology or a related science. Required and
    • 5 years In Medical technology or a related science. Preferred

    Licenses:

    • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Medical Technologist - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Specialist in Blood Banking - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Specialist in Chemistry - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Specialist in Cytometry - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Specialist in Hematology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Specialist in Microbiology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Specialist in Molecular Biology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Technologist in Blood Banking - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Technologist in Chemistry - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Technologist in Cytogenetics - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Technologist in Hematology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Technologist in Microbiology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Technologist in Molecular Biology - ASCP Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - AMT Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - AMT Upon Hire Required or
    • Certified Molecular Diagnostics Technologist - AMT Upon Hire Required or
    • Medical Technologist - ABOR Upon Hire Required
